    Has anyone else observed this?

    I have always thought of plate coral as being solitary coral, not colonial with round and flat skeletal dish short tentacles and ONE central mouth. BUT all of a sudden one of my plate coral seems to have developed multiple mouths around its central one

    I will agree that it looks like and most likely is a member of the order Stomatopoda. But I will disagree with your LFS assessment that it will not grow any larger without a positive identification of species. In any event you will have to remove it or risk losing livestock.
