    I don’t know about other brands. When I use a buffer I use REEF BUFFER made by Seachem. It will raise both PH and carbonate alkalinity. I like it because it will raise PH to 8.3 without accidental overdosing

    IMO before you jump into building a sump work out your plumbing on paper and figure out the space you will need under and behind your tank can you post a pic of your stand and tank in relation to the back of the tank and wall, i am going under the assumption you are not going to drill your tank

    we will have to see. I think my prefilters in my oveflow box and in my sump would keep them from getting into my DT, they have been growing in the overflow for a while and not appeared in my DT as of yet

    IMO with your tank up and running And your admitted lack of knowledge concerning sumps in general I would stick with the canister filter
