    MY FISH KEEP DYING!

hi @fishkiller if your salinity starts at 1.027, after top off should still be 1.027, you only top off with RODI not salt water. Water evaporates salt doesn't, the reason you top off is to keep your salinity stable. Hope this helps.

How often do I run my protein skimmer

Agreed 100%. I don't think coraline can thrive in high nitrates and phospates either. I have mostly LPS a few SPS so their is a fine balancing act between the requirements of both. That is the the hardest thing I find. I know our skimmer motor needed replacing and we went without a skimmer for...

How often do I run my protein skimmer

Thank you @flower for you answer, I think i must meet your ideas in the middle. I feed my corals at night 3 x a week, turn wave makers down to a slower flow and turn my skimmer to dry skim for that night and wet skim in the morning. I have amazing growth on corals (frag them regularly ) and...

How often do I run my protein skimmer

Hi @flower I contacted Seachem regarding turning skimmer off during feeding. Their answer was that the skimmer will only ever skim what hasn't been consumed by corals which is a good thing. The dosage recommended takes into account the small amount that will be extracted by the skimmer before...

    Refugium lighting questions.

I've been told but don't know if fact that it consumes 70% more nitrates to. 30% phos to survive. A more knowledgable reefer will chime in I am sure. So 0 nitrates may still be an issue ?

What the hell is this ?

Those things weren't swimming, I run two 150w gyers that I had turned up because I had no idea what had invaded my tank and they were being flung around by the flow with me panicking and trying to get them over the overflow. lol I have shown the video to a super experienced reefer also...

    Refugium lighting questions.

Is it possible you don't have high enough nitrates to keep it fed rather than a lighting problem ?

What the hell is this ?

I've just been told that here in Aussie corals will spawn once a year 5-7 days after a full moon in March/April. Last full moon here was the 4th March. So may well have been. This is such a fascinating hobby. !!! :)

Does carol need to feed food

I used to target feed once a week, but last year or so I havent. , I just use ammino in the water twice a week at lights out and all the corals have thrived. They also obviously feed on fish pooh and food in the tank, The only thing I do feed regularly is my BTA's

    High Ammonia

I agree that sand beds are the topic of conversation and opinions, and will continue to be. I think its up to the individual to make their own decisions and to research and do what they want to do. Just because I say it doesn't make it the best way or the only way, Just because @flower says it...

    High Ammonia

Hi @flower I agree with 99 % of what you've said except. -- sand bed. ? I know it contains a lot of bacteria BUT in saying that I believe it contains just as many nasties. 1. The absorbed nutrients, phos and nitrates in particular can be a problem for months with a sand bed being moved in...
