    Digitata help please. (UPDATE).

Well I just got back from my 2 week vacation. The digitata is still alive and kicking (even the part that I broke off has healed over). But still I'm noticing that the coloring isn't quite all there and the polyps in the shadowy recesses of the coral dont open. If the coral did have some kind of...

    Pulsing xenia flow

I currently have mine in the center of the tank just under pump where I think the flow in my tank is the weakest, it is the only place in the tank where I can tell that they are actually pulsing. Any place else they are being blown around by the current. The look nice and when I saw them after...

    Last minute CuC.

Well good news! I just called a place and they have a whole lot of trochus snails in stock!! Thats the 1st time I've had anyone local to me have them. I think maybe 5 or 6 of them should give me some piece of mind while I am gone. Maybe a few more astreas too if they give me a good price on...

    Last minute CuC.

Oh I do have a cleaner shrimp It just didn't occur to me he's a CuC member because all of us at the house love looking at him lol. Yeah although I've rarely see him "clean" a fish he does a fine job finding stuff hidden in the cracks to eat. Oh I also forgot to mention there are also 2...

    Last minute CuC.

Hey all I'm hoping to get some quick replies here since timing is of the essence. I am going away for 2 weeks and I've left feeding instructions for a couple of relatives for feeding the fish/corals and will be doing a 50% water change today so hopefully that will do until I get back. However...

pulsating xenia. will it grow or melt away?

Oh and also pulsing xenia are rumored to be nitrate eaters. I say rumored because I've heard some people at LFSs say thats true and other say they never heard that. Allowing yourself to have a small but safe amount of nitrates in the tank may contribute to this coral's well being.

pulsating xenia. will it grow or melt away?

Its a total crapshoot getting pulsing xenia to survive long, so if I were you I'd get a small cheap frag as a tester. If it lives for a month, buy a bigger colony. Also, they hate the heat and LOVE iodine, so keeping the tank's temperature under 80 and having ideal iodine levels should greatly...

    Digitata help please. (UPDATE).

Well, I took the coral back to the LFS to have a look at it. They said it could be a parasite that is sensitive to the light, which would explain why the color loss is only occuring where the coral casts a shadow on itself. So I got some dip and hope that will solve the problem. However, during...

    Digitata help please. (UPDATE).

Actually its not that its losing color... upon closer inspection it seems that parts of the coral are turning pinkish. Now, I've read that Orange Digitata can turn pink if its under powerful lighting, but to me it seems strange that the pink parts of the coral are specifically where the light...

    Digitata help please. (UPDATE).

Hey all I need some help with my Orange Digitata. For the last few weeks its been in my tank its seemed to be doing great but this morning I noticed something odd about it. You see, because the way the branches are shaped, it has always casts a shadow on itself. I noticed today that the areas...

10 gallon reef lighting! please help!!

Hi, Have you considered LEDs? I'm using them as my main light source for my 40 gallon reef and I cannot recommend them enough :) Check out the Panorama strips by Ecoexotic. They are only $100 each and I think 1 12 inch combo (meaning white and blue dots) would provide all the light you need on...

Do I have enough lightt for a clam?

Well I'm actually felling pretty good about getting a clam now. Not only does the LFS where I bought my 2 Ecoexotic LED strips from say I can do a clam with these... but yesterday I walked into a random LFS and saw a nice clam they were acclimating from the shipping box, the guy asked about my...

Duncan coral help needed (UPDATE possible emergency!!!)

Hey all, So I've had this little Duncan coral frag in my tank for over a week now and it still has not fully opened. It currently has 2 heads. The head at the top of the stalk seems to open fully but does not extend its tentacles, and the head at the bottom only usually opens halfway and remains...

    removing cc-..

What I did was I got one of those 20 gallon red party tubs at Target for like $3, put half my tank's water in it first, followed by all the live rock. Then I put in the tank's heater and powerhead and made sure they were running. Once all of that were in the tub, I netted the fish out one at a...
