Button polyps doing something strange... what could it be?

Hmm... ok well before this I would see the buttons feed by catching a floating particle, then close up for like 5 minutes, then reopen... but that was when a piece from frozen mysis or daphnia came floating by. So this is definatly a feeding reaction the the microscopic foods in the zooplankton...

Button polyps doing something strange... what could it be?

Hi, So since I've added some green button polyps to my tank, they have been growing, spreading, and keeping their nice bright green colors (yay), but as of last week, since I started feeding the tank zooplankton, I've been noticing some strange behavior with the buttons. Basically, some of the...

    Astrea snails being weird

So I added 5 astrea snails to my tank last week to beef up my CuC a little bit. But the thing is, since they've been in my tank, all they do is climb to the top and sit halfway out of the water or inside the "waterfall" my filter creates. I tested my water thinking that there is something about...

What makes Frogspawn an "expert" level coral?

I just got into keeping corals a few weeks ago and the LFS recommended the Frogspawn as one of my starter corals. I got one (among a few other corals) and all the corals are doing great. The Frogspawn is particularly beautiful and fully opens when the lights are on and behaves exactly like I...

    Fighting Conch question.

Ok... well FYI my conch isn't buring itself in the sand... it just sits on top of the sand all day. Also , this morning he was in the same spot from the previous day. I took him out and sniffed him and when I put him back he moved around a little bit (like two steps) then stopped.

Do I have enough lightt for a clam?

I'm just curious. I have no concrete plans for a clam any time soon but if I did decide to get a clam do I have enough light for it? Is a 40 gallon tank and there are roughly 18 inches from the water's surface to the sand bottom. For lights I have 2 12 inch Ecoexotic Panorama LED combo lights...

    Fighting Conch question.

Ok good to know... I actually just came home and now the conch is on the other side of the aquarium and moving around. I finally got a good look at its face poking out of the shell. Really goofy looking creature... I think I will name it Jar Jar lol.

    Where to get RO water?

So I've been making the mistake of keeping a few spare gallons of clean saltwater on hand to top off the tank whenever water evaporates. Thankfully by the time I realized my error, the SG in my water remained at 1.024... anyway, since I've never actually seen RO water (or maybe I have and just...

    Strange coral behavior I'm noticing...

Ah, well that explains why the button polyps didn't close then... they close up and re-open throughout the day especially when I'm feeding the tank. In that case... seeing as how all the other corals close and re-open together at the same time of the day... they must all be well fed :)

    Fighting Conch question.

Is it normal for a Fighting Conch to not move around all that much? I got one yesterday as part of a CuC and unlike all the other critters that immediately went to work all over the tank, the Conch moved around a little bit, then stayed in one spot for the rest of the day. When I came to the...

    Strange coral behavior I'm noticing...

So at the moment, I have 4 corals in my tank: Green Button Polyps, Star Polyps, Frogspawn, and a Bullseye Mushroom (which I just got a few days ago). So since I've had the mushroom, I noticed that every day at 6pm the mushroom would close up for a little while and then open again. And now, All...

Is this too much for a CuC?

Well I did a little CuC hunting today... I came home with 5 Astreas, 4 Nassarius, 2 Emeralds Crabs, and a Fighting Conch. I think between those and what I have already, I'm set as far as CuC goes :)

Is this too much for a CuC?

haha Slice that was my thought exactly when he said 12 Turbos! Regarding the hermits, even though I understand the general opinion of hermits is not very great, I do personally like to watch them in the tank. So, if I were to get some blue legged and scarlet hermits, what would the recommended...

My Clown is really starting to annoy me...

Yeah I really don't want to do that... I really like my rock arrangement atm lol... Think maybe getting a 2nd clown would make the one currently in the tank more sociable?

Is this too much for a CuC?

Hey all, So the other day a friend of mine recommended I go check out this LFS that I haven't been too before and when I arrived I really liked what I saw. Lots of healthy looking fish, some nice inverts that I haven't seen other stores carry, and a great selection of corals in all sizes...

Basic, easily kept coral without any maintance?

At one of my LFS's the owner rants and raves about mini-carpet anemones. They are super-bright and come in a variety of colors and (from what I'm told) rarely roam and have a very mild sting. I aactually wouldn't mind having a few... but the price for them is kinda steep for something the size...
