Uh oh, my hermits are going to need to be replaced soon.

Happy 4th all! So I've noticed my Arrow Crab has decided that my hermits make a great midnight snack. Every now and then when I turn on the lights in the morning I will see the Arrow munching on half a hermit corpse, despite the fact that I regularly feed the tank brine, mysis, and sinking...

    Black Cucumber help please!

Well, paranoia got the better of me today and I took the cucumber out of the tank. He was actually really good when stuffed in a hollowed out jalepeno and wrapped in bacon, then dunked in some rasberry chipotle grilling sauce! J/K I took him back to the shop and traded him in for a master test...

    Black Cucumber help please!

No problem Bang Guy. This is after I moved him back onto the sand. He felt around the sand for a little while, then went back up on the glass. Now I just realized, since a few days prior to getting the cucumber, I removed all of my crushed coral sand and replaced it with live sand. Could it be...

My 40 gallon tank (pic thread updated 9/13).

Ok phones got some juice... here's my upgrades: Took out the lame stock lights and replaced them with 2 Ecoexotic Panorama LED combo strips. I wanted to hear angels sing whenever I look at the tank and they don't disappoint! The stock filter was also replaced. Up close is the protien skimmer...

My 40 gallon tank (pic thread updated 9/13).

Did some major upgrading over the last week. The first big upgrade is that I removed all the livestock and rock from the tank and replaced all the CC with live sand. Today I replaced the filter that game with the tank with an Aquaclear 70 powerfilter, a CPR Aeroforce Protien Skimmer, and the...

    Black Cucumber help please!

So today the cucumber spent all day on the glass at the top of the tank. Is this a sign that things aren't good? I would think so since it should be in the sand. I'm thinking that if its still there in the morning I'll take him out and return him before he gets a chance to disappear into the...

Just starting out with 30G tank ..

Although I am slacking and haven't got one myself yet (still using strips) everyone here seems to agree a Master Test Kit is the best kit to get. Prices will vary depending on the store and brand, but expect to pay $20+ bucks for a decent one.

I think my snails are sick.

Well.. I am now pretty sure its dead. I took it out to have a smell, and it smelled like a pier seafood market... that and the other sign was when gravity took over when I held the shell upright... he opened up, fell out, and made a nice black splatter on the floor... ewwwww lol! So I think the...

While he was inthe accimation bucket, he stetched himself out to ~7 inches. From what I found online...

    LFS Rant

The sign on the display tanks at my LFS has a sign on it that says "Fish in this tank not for sale" so I don't bother but when I say I am interested in a particular fish thats in a display tank they are usually good about getting that fish in their next livestock shipment, which is every other...

What is a good invert for digging through crushed coral?

Well the CC is out and the live sand is in :) So now I guess the question has changed to which invert is a great sand sifter? I think my tank is too new for a sand sifting starfish, but I'm in no hurry to move the sand around so if he's the best I can wait until my tank matures more.

I think my snails are sick.

Thanks for the input everyone ^_^ Well, its been a few days and 3 of the snails seem to be back to normal. The 4th nail however, closed up in his shell and hasn't moved moved at all in the last 2 days. How long should I give it until I consider it dead?

Corrcting an error in my tank.

Well I got tired of my nitrate going up despite a 25% water change, bio ball washing, and filter pad washing over the weekend so the CC sand came out. I did it by placing my live rock and livestock in a 20 gallon plastic tub with the tanks heater and powerhead, and then scooped out all the CC...

Added live sand to established tank, very cloudy, safe for fish?

Hi, I just recently removed the CC sand that was in my tank and replaced it with live sand. Yes, the tank was very cloudy for about 24 hours and I was worried the fish wouldn't make it. I'm pleased to report that the fish didn't seem to notice and even came out to feed when food was dropped in...

Just starting out with 30G tank ..

Hi there... I also recently started a tank about a month ago. So far I think the most important thing I've learned is to do your own research before you buy something whether it is a piece of equipment or living creature for your tank. I say this because there is a conflicting opinion for almost...
