    thinking about switching over...

I agree with JW. I would ditch the blue tang over the yellow. If you do that then a flame angel would fit in nicely or a clown mate for your other clown. Another thing you need to ask yourself is y did your "reef" tank fail? Did you get corals in there? Or did your tank never get to the...

No RO around. Tap or Distilled?

Use distilled. Even then just be careful. No matter how good tap water is its usually a major culprit in undesireable algae growths at some point..... Try looking for a water supplier. They usually sell RO water in addition to drinking water.

    lighting upgrade ?

Thats alot of light for a 60 gallon as it is. Do you need more light to illuminate the tank or what? You have plenty of light for the corals you do have in there. So long as you don't want any sps then i wouldn't worry about adding on anything.

    damsel tankmates

I second jw's assesment. If you can hold him elsewhere for a couple days then you may be able to eliminate territorial issues. While he is gone from the tank change the rock so he has to reestablish himself. They will get along with plenty of fish but many fish are very territorial after they...

    Circulation for Nano

Nice. You aren't buying quantity but quality for sure..... Be sure to find a halide light that has supplemental pc's with it. YOu need to provide actinics for the corals you will have. I'm pretty sure moonlights wont cut it... As far as your pump worries go you may want to just use a power...

Question. Whens the next time you'll be in Raleigh? Any chance you might be able to take pics of my tanks next time you are? Its been so long since i've had a camera. I loved documenting the growth every month.

    Lions

Hehehe. If you are set on getting shrimp then no do not get a lion. In a 55 you can't get a traditional lion, you need a dwarf lion. A dwarf lion would be much better suited to your tank. Just always remember thier mouths are frikin huge and they will eat fish their size... I've seen it...

Zoo, Phyto, or Snow? Which food feeds corals the best?

Phytoplex is dead. I understand that. I worry about using DT's due to the fact that it is live and that my tanks are relatively small. I could never use a full bottle within the lifeframe of the DT's. I never thought of actually feeding the little things in my tank. I always assumed they...

    Circulation for Nano

If you are going to drill y not set up a 10 or 20 gallon sumpt to add volume of water to the tank. You can then place the filtration down there and keep the very nice oceanic cube clutter free. I guess if you pump back through the other hole there is one power head. I would have two other...

getting my hippo tang to eat nori

Try taking a small piece and mashing it up with your fingers in the water. Maybe he will eat it as it drifts by. Carefull not to do to big of a piece. I've done it before in my small tanks and it always results in a small spike of cyano....

    Setting up a 180

Hmm. As far as sumps try to get a 30 or 40 gallon sump. Wether you do it yourself or not just depends on how handy you are. They seem relatively easy and its just a matter of buying a regular tank and outfitting it with glass sheets to creat compartments in the tank for water flow. You want...

    is reef ready necessary

Considering how much oceanic tanks are...... I would do a sump personally with a tank that size. Thus buy the reef ready.... A 20 gallon sump can add at least 10 gallons of water to your system making it all the more stable. I say at least because it just depends on what water level you...

Zoo, Phyto, or Snow? Which food feeds corals the best?

Well i have a variety of genuses of corals. Soft, lps, sps, and corralinomorphs(which some will say are inverts and i think they are personally). I've been using kents phytoplankton but recently was reading through Bornemans, Aquarium Corals and read the section on the three types of micro foods...

    New Brain

Get some tweezers and feed it at night. They can grow enourmous and then close up around the food. They do have tentacles as im sure you've seen. If he's hungry youll see them come out more. Nursing mine back to its former glory i fed it daily until it could sustain itself on the...

    Cleaning Crew Mortality

Well. I personally think you had way to many hermits to begin with. While they are tiny they will war with eachother to a certain extent. I've heard that you only want one hermit of either type per 5 gallons. Hermits will eat snails to get their shells. If you didn't have alot of extras im...
