Increased aggression with a new anemone

BTLD, Thanks for the advice. Things haven't really calmed down in the last day or two. But, the male seems to be holding up ok given the circumstances. I guess this is just nature following its course. I'm always tempted to find a way to teach the female a lesson, or to scold the wrasse...

Increased aggression with a new anemone

Recently purchased a green carpet anemone to host a supposedly mated pair of polynmus/saddleback clowns last weekend. I've been able to successfully get the anemone to find a comfortable spot, and within half an hour, the female clown was nuzzling it like crazy. Great! Mr. Clown also seems...

    What kind of hermit crab?

Well, I traded Harry the Bloodly Hermit Crab back to the LFS for $12 worth of chaetomorpha. While not an exciting trade, at least I got some cash value from the transaction as well as a few month of enjoying his distinctive colors and interesting personality. I'm was very sad to see him go...

    What kind of hermit crab?

Saxman, How is it possible that you know this much about hermit crabs? Is it just hermits, or everything aquarium? The specificity of your responses is incredible!

    What kind of hermit crab?

Thanks for the insight. I didn't know about the hairy-legs clause. Unfortunately, while I love this guy because of his striking colors, I might have to trade him back to the LFS. Last time, they gave me $12 store credit for trading in a gigantic emerald crab that was feasting on my torch...

    What kind of hermit crab?

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure he was eating the zoos. Big chunks were coming off and floating into the water. You could definitely see the coral torn up and flailing. Very disturbing. I really wanted to make the same assumption too, but the evidence was all going in the wrong direction. I...

    What kind of hermit crab?

We've had this hermit crab for a few months now. Everything was just fine as he's very active, not shy, and has brilliant colors. But recently, we introduced some zoos into the tank and he started picking on them like cinnabons! We relegated him to the refugium for the time-being. Now the...

Good place for a Lettuce Nudibranch?

Good place for a Lettuce Nudibranch?

That's not a bad idea. If it can be porous enough to allow the pods to get through but not the nudibranch, that would probably work. I'll see what I can find around the house. If I can't get this done, I'll take post some pics with results.

Good place for a Lettuce Nudibranch?

I've got the medium-sized Aquafuge with the 36W light. No skimmer. It's the newer model with the black backing. The lights look a different than the ones in the pic.

Good place for a Lettuce Nudibranch?

I recently purchased a Aquafuge HOB refugium. It's set up with some LR rubble, MiracleMud, and chaeto. I was also thinking about adding to my somewhat sparse CUC and noticed some options that come with a Lettuce Nudibranch. Reading the board indicates that these things often commit suicide by...

Best way to catch a crab

So I tried to be somewhat peaceful about this and was unsuccessful. Removed the rock out of the water and put it on some egg crates. After 10 minutes, the crab still wasn't coming out. So, I followed the advice on another thread and took a long screwdriver to the holes in the rock. Using a...

Best way to catch a crab

Got what I think is a stone crab as a hitchhiker from a piece of live rock. It's got black claws so I want to get it out of the DT. What's the best way to catch it? Here's what I've tried so far: 1. Put a piece of shrimp in a tilted glass near where the crab likes to hang out. He does try to...

Is this a Black Emerald Crab?

Sorry Jax, I would give him/her to you but I already returned it to the LFS. The guy there agreed with the decision to not put it in a reef tank. His opinion was that it probably wouldn't be dangerous to fish, but any corals would be a 50/50 chance of being a meal.

Is this a Black Emerald Crab?

I would relegate him to the sump if I had one. For now, he's going to stay in the ventilated container I've got him trapped in. Once I get a HOB refugium (because I don't have room for a sump), he'll go in there. Also contemplating giving him back to the LFS. He's just not cute enough to...

Is this a Black Emerald Crab?

Bought some LR from the LFS today and as I put the rock into the water, something black dropped off and scurried away. It was pretty frickin' fast. Later, I got a better look at it and it's a jet-black crab with big claws. Started reading on the forums of nightmare crabs with red eyes that...

    eshopps vs. cpr aeroforce?

Quick update on my Eshopps PSK-100H. After a couple more days, I'm happy to say that the micro-bubbles are gone. The performance has been really nice with some good quality skimmate. The air silencer was effective in getting calming down most of the sound to a very acceptable level. No...

    eshopps vs. cpr aeroforce?

I just bought the Eshopps PSK-100H last weekend from a LFS. Since this is my first skimmer ever, please take my comments with a grain of salt. 1. I like the fact that the pump hangs below the unit. Only 2 tubes in the DT so it looks nice and clean. 2. The HOB skimmers do NOT come with an...

    An Odyssea review

I'm interested in that refugium/skimmer too! My biggest question is if the skimmer is effective enough for my setup. Would it be more beneficial to have a dedicated HOB skimmer rather than the one that comes built into the fuge? My guy at the LFS says that my tank needs a top-notch skimmer and...
