    Red Algae

    I have had my 55 gallon set up for about 8 months now and all of a sudden i am starting to get red algae on some of my rocks. It can be rubbed off, but what is it and is it bad? also...would this have any effect on my xenia? it has been looking pretty bad the last few days.

    i'm surprized the red legs dont touch it, but the emerald will and the turbo should as well. my experiance is crabs will eat the hair algae and snails eat more of the film algae.

    i think a 55 is large enough, just make you get the long version (48in long). My best advice is find a fish you like and do reasearch on it. Many aggressive fish will eat snails and crabs so you just need to find that out before you buy them. research reasearch reasearch... thats the best advice...

    i've actully increased my lighting. I have a 6 bulb t-5HO set-up. My 2 atinics come on at 8am and turn off at 7pm. my 3 daylight and 1 atinic come on at 9am and turn off at 6pm. My bulbs are just about 8 months old as well, but the light cycle i have stated above just started about 3 weeks ago...
