I just purchased this Mushroom rock and when I got it home I found all of this yellow sponge type stuff growing all over the rock. I figure its just a harmless yellow sponge, but just want to make sure. I will wait to put it into the tank, leaving it in the bag.

There should be some sort of water level adjustment. The bubbles just barely need to reach the incline of the skimmer cup. I usually have to empty mine once a week. If its filling up super fast it needs to be adjusted down. Any pic will help. Which model Octopus Skimmer is it? There are several.

I agree, leave it alone. I had 2 in my tank and one of them found its way into the overflow. It came out 2 months later. I recall seeing it try to feed through the small slits toward the bottom of the overflow.

Ok, so 3 weeks ago one of my power outlets caught fire and crashed my 72 gal tank. Well, smoke, a fire extinguisher (since a pot of water from the sink didn’t work -electrical fire) and heat crashed my tank. I removed the fish, coral, and inverts and put them into a 55 gal trash container. I...
