I'm not sure why that didn't occur to me. For some reason, I was picturing a pile of sand on the bottom of the tank. Now that you guys say it, it seems pretty obvious. I guess that's why you make the big bucks!

    quarantine tank

I intended to feed him the way I normally feed the display tank, I was just concerned that it wouldn't be enough given how much they like to sift the sand. When you put the small amount of sand in the QT, doesn't it tend to spread out? I'm wondering if that would be enough to keep the goby happy.

    quarantine tank

Does anyone have any wisdom on keeping a diamond goby in QT without sand? I'm hoping to add one to my stock soon, but I want to make sure he gets what he needs in quarantine. Will he get enough food out of the column to survive the quarantine period, or do I need to take special steps to get...

Nori wrap..................a less messy way to feed nori seaweed.

The fish eat the leaves too? I tried putting some romaine in for my tang, but he was not interested. He loves the nori, but like you say, it makes a mess and doesn't seem to stay together long enough for the fish to make the most of it. Maybe I should try a different variety of leaf?

    Adding tankmates

Now that my recent fish emergency is behind me (see the 'quarantine tank' thread for details and for the great advice I got from the forum), I'm looking forward to adding new fish. I'm brainstorming ways to reduce the level of friction between my current fish and any new additions I make. I...

How often do you transfer tanks? Is it daily? How many transfers do you do?

    quarantine tank

Going forward, I intend to do a quarantine on everything. I have read some differing opinions on whether to treat with something like cupramine or prazipro in quarantine as a preventative measure before putting the fish in general population. Some say that they do this whether the fish has any...

    quarantine tank

He's been in QT for 6 weeks. I initially treated with hyposalinity (1.009) and reduced doses of formalin / malachite green. But I discontinued the meds when the spots cleared. I bought a bottle of cupramine just in case, but it doesn't appear to be necessary, since I haven't seen any symptoms...

    quarantine tank

Update! My tang is looking great! We are almost through the treatment process. He was strutting around the quarantine tank the other day showing me how pretty he is! Thanks for all the help!

If the PH is too low, what is the recommended buffer to get it back into the right range, and how quickly / slowly can / should the adjustment be made?

Ok. The sg is now at 1.009. Once the new spot is gone and I see no more scratching / flashing, I'll start the countdown. I'll check out the zeocon / selcon options. I appreciate all of the advice. I'm sure I'll have more questions before it is all over with.

    quarantine tank

Thanks guys. I calibrate at least every other day. I was at 1.010 after calibrating yesterday evening. And then I saw another spot after a week of being clear. So I'm dropping the sg to .009. I also moved everyone into the same treatment tank to save a little on water changes (and to give...

    quarantine tank

The salinity has been consistent at 1.010 with a refractometer. Does the additional .001 make that much difference? I also have two air stones in the tank to keep the water oxygenated. I haven't used copper, but I was using a daily half dose of formalin / malachite green for the first week...

    Tiny little "worms"?

Ok, I was under the impression that fireworms were bad. I'm not sure I would be able to get to it to touch it before it retreats into the rock. The thing is tiny, and pretty quick when it wants to be. Should I worry about them hurting the fish / non-coral inverts? also, how big are they...

    Tiny little "worms"?

How can I tell the difference between bristle worms and fire worms when the worm is really small. It retreats from light when I try to look at it closely. it is about an inch long, and moves in and out of the little nooks and crannies.

    quarantine tank

Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum, so please bear with me! I'm currently towards the end of quarantining my entire population for ich. I put my brown tang in his own isolation at lowered salinity, and put the rest of the fish in a separate isolation at lowered salinity a few days later...
