I have mine right on top of a rock pile, right under a 175w halide. It's more flow you should be thinking about than location, you'll want a spot with gentle flow.

Just like other people are saying, make two rock piles, with a long piece connecting - here is half of my tank right after I set it up. I have also seen great arrangements with Tonga branch - what are your tank dimensions?
