    ID please...

I have something yellow encrusting one of my rocks, and is starting to spread to an adjoining rock. The included picture shows it is growing around the anthelia, so this is fairly new growth. At first glance it looks similar to the yellow sponge that grows on the surrounding rocks, but upon...

    Sea star loses a leg...

My red fromia sea star lost a leg about a week ago. The leg has wandered all over the tank since then. I took this picture this afternoon. The first thing that came to mind when I saw this was the sea star thinking, "I'm missing something, but I can't quite put my finger on it." LOL!!!

    Get a new tank cheap!

I normally don't promote vendors, but I think this is an excellent time to do so. The promotional sale will begin tomorrow (June 29) and will last for two weeks. This is a great opportunity for those interested in getting started in the hobby, or those with small tanks looking to go larger. The...

    Blue Flasher Wrasse

I happened to be in an unnamed pet store last weekend to dump my chocolate chip sea star, and to see if they still had the $1 per gallon glass aquarium sale going on. Fortunately, they accepted the sea star, AND the sale was still going on... so I scooped up a 10 gallon tank for $10, and a 40...

What kind of anemone is this?

I've owned this anemone for exactly one year, and I would like to know what it is. It has never hosted a clownfish, but it did have a brief relationship with a domino damsel. I am leaning towards Heteractis Crispa, aka/ Sebae Anemone, but I don't notice distinctive pink tips on the tentacles. As...

    NO3:PO4-X

I'm (finally) going to take the plunge and try my luck with SPS corals. First things first... I need to reduce my Nitrates and Phosphates to "near" zero, but I'm not in a position to purchase dosing pumps or reactors at the moment. So, the best alternative appeared to be Red Sea's NPX. Nitrate...

Is my pink birds nest dead?

I bought a couple of pink birds nest frags a couple of weeks ago. They were shipped on Thursday (1/30/14), but were not delivered on Friday (1/31/14) as scheduled, due to a previous couple of days of ice in the area which created a FedEx backlog. The roads were completely clear on Thursday and...

Yellow Ball Sponge... and mystery sponge

I seem to have an explosion of yellow ball sponges in my tank. I noticed a pair of small ones a couple of months ago. Today, I counted five large and two small YBS's... and these are the ones I can see. There's no telling how many more are hidden behind and between rocks. Do I have to worry...

    Aiptsia... or what?

This fellow is growing in the return chamber of my refugium. The wall it's attached to is black, so little to no light spills over to it. It's located in my basement, so the bi-weekly trips for maintenance shouldn't give it a sufficient photoperiod... but here it is, big as life. I thought it...

    Tiny jellyfish type creature

I recently noticed three of these creatures swimming around in my pod tank. They swim like a jellyfish, but when they stop swimming, they float around like a dandelion seed. When they land on a surface, it's always with what appears to be their tops (while swimming) against the surface. The part...

ID of white spirals on glass

I have what start out as little white commas, growing into slightly larger white spirals. They grow in my DT and pod tank. The skinny, longer specks around it are copepods. These things are hard, and they stick to the glass like crazy... like barnacles. Any ideas?

    Help with identification...

I'm new to the forum, and fairly new to the marine hobby. It's been quite a journey! One day at *****, I spotted this creature laying in the back of one of the tanks. I thought it was a frilly mushroom, and apparently the salesman did too. He couldn't find the SKU for it, so he tossed it in with...
