    naso not eating, getting skinny-worried!

It’s not that unusual for a new fish to not eat for three, four or even five days. Once he gets used to your water quality, and his new surroundings, then chances are he’ll eat fine. But, the fact that he ate a little something and then didn’t eat again suggests that he might have something else...

Do people use siphons or pumps for water changes

I change a lot of water because of the sizes of my tanks, but here is what I do. I have two 40 gallon Rubbermaid trashcans on wheels. One has fresh seawater in it and then other is empty. I use a gravel cleaner, (my tanks are fish only so yes I clean my gravel) and drain the water into the empty...

The hypo will work just fine. And the good news is that once you get the SG down to .09, it takes a LOT less salt to mix up future batches of replacement water. So it won't cost you an arm and a leg to make a lot of water changes. Just make sure you follow all of Beths posts on the Disease...

    White Bumps Blue Hippo Tang

Using existing water is a good idea because your fish are already acclimated to it. And it will transfer “some” bacteria, but not enough to cycle it. You can purchase bacteria cultures in your fish stores and add them directly to your tank to speed up the process. Don’t buy the stuff in the...

Will a Blackcap Basslet get along with..

I have one of each in a 75 gallon and they get along fine. If you have a lot of rock to hide in, they will probably be ok. Just keep doing some research on what is out there. In your sized tank your options are HUGE! There are some really cool fairy wrasses, gobies and blennies that would do...

Will a Blackcap Basslet get along with..

In my experience the Black Cap is going to be the most aggressive of the three. If you already have the other two and they are established in your tank, then he may not be a problem. But they can be pretty nasty towards other fish in the same family or same body shape, so I would be careful and...

    Are these all safe crabs

In that sized tank I think they do fine. I have a tank where I keep a bunch of different inverts. Very cool to watch. I'm sure you'll enjoy yours too. Take care man.

    White Bumps Blue Hippo Tang

I understand completely. So let’s address what we can for now. Your tang is the priority simply because he is so susceptible to ick. He’ll need to go into the QT as soon as it cycles. And then you can keep an eye on your other fish. But at some point you’ll need to get your other fish out of...

bone sticking out side of my tang.....

Oh yeah man, they can be nasty. And your right, I think Naso's have two on each side.

    Are these all safe crabs

These all seem pretty good. How big is your tank and how many of each are you thinking about? Will you have a lot of rock where they can crawl around a bit?

    White Bumps Blue Hippo Tang

What else do you have in your display tank? If you have inverts and live rock, could you remove them and put them in your QT? If so, then you could do a hypo on your display tank and kill ALL of the ick. If you have live sand, it would be good to remove that as well. It might be the best option...

    Shipping crabs ?

Because of the unpredictable weather this time of year, you will want them in transit as short a time as possible. Since they don’t require the same amount of oxygen as fish, and they don’t produce the same amount of waste, you don’t need to ship them is extra large bags. BUT, I would not take...

bone sticking out side of my tang.....

Yeah, they have them near the base of the tail. You'll only see them when they are using them against another fish. Yellow tangs are one of the few that are white, so they are easier to see.

    White Bumps Blue Hippo Tang

Do you have all of your fish in the QT? Even though they don’t show signs of it, they’ll be infected as well. You will have to remove them from your main tank and leave it “fish free” until the ick in that tank die out. Tangs have the least amount of defense against ick and so they are the first...

bone sticking out side of my tang.....

They can actually move it in and out. It’s like a switchblade knife. That is how they got the name Surgeonfish. That “scalpel” on end of the tail can make a nasty wound in anything they don’t like.

    colored sand

My little niece drove me CRAZY about wanting colored sand in a tank. So I set up a small 20 gallon and included that colored stuff. She has three damsels who seem no less for the wear. I’ve not had any problems with it and never saw any water readings to be concerned with. That’s my two cents...

    hydrometer seasoning

Honestly, it would probably not matter if it were brand new. I’m trying to sound rude, but Hydrometers are so inaccurate that there is not much you can do to make them better. But having one is better than nothing, so here is my advice. To insure that it is as accurate as possible, the one...

does anyone have a Raccoon Butterfly

I have a couple of Raccoons but not in reef. But based on how they graze my LR, I would not think they would be a safe addition to your reef. They eat pretty much anything they see. After I clean my tank, I have to count my fingers just to make sure they didn’t eat one!
