Heaters should be in the water for AT LEAST 30 mins. Putting the heater in the tank, therefore changing the heater's glass temp rapidly stresses the glass, and if you turn on the heater, this adds to that stress.

I am going to be picking up the light, eggcrate and filter floss today.
