    FOWLR water flow

How much water flow is needed in a fish and live rock tank and is a random pattern of flow as important as in one with corals?I have a 125 gallon but turnover times per hour answer is fine (.e. 10X 15X ect.)

Nitrates were off my test scale, so they have come down greatly. Just wanted to get it done a little faster.

    Water change to reduce nitrate

I have a 125 gallon that has been running for almost 2 years. It has had a very small clean-up crew, 3 fish and 150 pounds of live rock in it for most of that time. I have kind of let it go over the past while, no water changes ect. Now I plan on bringing it to life. I have checked all...

    First fish

For lighting I plan to keep it simple at first but leave it very open for upgrades. I don't plan on any corals or other harder to keep items until the tank is no less than 8 months old, so if needed I'll make a better light choice then. Just taking it slow and easy, I don't feel the need to...

After 2 months and lots of reading your posts we finally have our first fish. With a 2 and 3 year old bet you could guess what ones the wanted. Theres been a emeraled crab, turbo, and coral banded for a few weeks. The clean up crew will be ordered in 2-3 weeks. Maybe some more fish in a...

    New setup progressing, what next?

My 120 gal now has water 79F 1.025, 8.2PH. 3 inches of aragonite sand and about 75 lbs of fiji live rock. I got the rock at a lfs as base rock. The rock had very little color left on it maybe 1/4 covered, but at less than $2.00 a pound I couldn't pass it up. I ordered another 45-50 of good...

    Adding salt to new setup?

Tank is 3/4 full with R/O water. Can I mx the salt in a jug with R/O water and dump it in to fill the rest of the tank? I have read to let the salt sit a while in the water prior to adding it. Does that only matter after tank is up and running? I have two powerheads and two filetrs running.

    Adding salt to new setup?

What is the best way to add the salt, anything to avoid? It's a new setup only sand and water now.
