    lethargic snails

    I've always noticed, and read, that ceriths are pretty "laid-back" as snails go. They can also be sensitive to a number of chemicals that are commonly used to treat marine tanks. Have you notice a spike in ammonia, nitrites, or nitrate? They are a bit sensitive to high levels of these too.

    I have found that it's a good idea to have several empty shells per hermit. Depending on the hermit species, this can especially true if there are any snails in the tank. Many hermits will spend the day eating...and looking for a new "home". Some hermit species will look for empty shells...
