usually in the evening, 8.4 is the top color on my test kit, may be a little higher

I use R.O. water,Calcium@440 ppm,dkh 220 ppm, is alkalinity same as dkh? don't test Mag. but add magnesium and strontium bi-weekly.
I'm installing a new proiein skimmer on my 55 gal. tank but not getting "sticky" bubbles. PH is 8.4 and salinity is @1.26? I havent checked carbonate hardness is this a factor?
