    Lighting Schedule & Mounting

Hello guys, I just bought a new lighting fixture for my 75 gallon tank. It is a canopy style combo of 2x 250W HQI metal halide lamps, 4x 54W T5 HO lamps, and 6x dual Bluemoon LED. I only have experience with the lighting on my 55 gallon tank, which are 2x pendant style 150W HQI metal halide...

    Getting Rid of Worms

I have Oenone fulgida worms. The only thing that keeps them from feeding is the metal halides. How long can you leave metal halides on without harming invertebrates, corals, fish, etc? Is it possible to leave them on long enough to starve out the worms?

    Removing Oenone fulgida Worms

This post details the identification and the removal of the worm, Oenone fulgida. This worm looks like a bristle worm at a casual glance. A more careful examination will reveal that the worm does not have setae (bristles), but instead fleshy lobules. Oenone worms are also much quicker/alert than...

    Dietary Calcium Supplement In Tank

Greetings, I just had an idea and I wanted to run it by the people of this site before trying it out. I know it sounds like an awful idea, so try to hold back on bashing it unless you have a hypothesis on why specifically (chemically speaking) it would be bad. I had the idea of crushing up a...

Why Did I Spend $400 on a Calcium Reactor System?

I've have a calcium reactor hooked up to a solenoid valved with a co2 tank for awhile now. All of this is hooked up to a ph controller that uses a probe positioned in the calcium reactor. I had high alkalinity for a few weeks or so (15-18dKH) where some of my corals suffered. I was slowly able...

1 Cup of Rice in a Marine Tank

My nephew dumped about 1 cup of uncooked white rice into my 55 gallon reef tank. It will be about 24 hours before I can siphon it out. Anyone have any input on how detrimental this will be to the tank? Thanks

    Mushroom Coral Distending Gut (photos)

I've had a few really large hairy mushrooms (7+ inches diameter) in my tank for the past 3 years and they've always been fun to watch. Last night I had the pleasure of witnessing one evacuate its gut after feeding the previous night. I'm not sure of the specific genus/species (suggestions...

    Thinking About Starting the Hobby?

So, you go to the pet store to pick up some kitty litter for puss or a bag of Ol' Roy for the hound and something catches your eye. A section in the back of the pet store mysteriously beckons, like a siren to a sailor, like a flame to a moth. Setting your merchandise down, you amble towards it...
