Thanks beaslbob - the reason for starting over is I'm concerned that there may be a dangerous chemical in water and even changing 25% hadn't fixed the problem - so I want to start fresh.

thanks for all support... I've had freshwater fish all my life and I have had such a rocky start to this... I have learned -- be careful -- the lfs says what they think you want to hear, not what is good for the tank (maybe that's why sw fish have no guarantee like fw fish?!) Cheryl

no, I bought it brand new to use specifically for the tank... (fyi - the lfs I got them from had trouble catching them - could this have stressed them out so bad that even doing a correct acclimation wouldn't destress?)
