    Won Bros Skimmer?

What would be considered a big enough pump? The one I am considering comes with an HX4500 pump rated for 600gph. Is that enough for a 75g tank? Anyone else have one of these?

    Won Bros Skimmer?

Reviving this thread again! Anyone have one of these or any positive or negative thoughts on them? Any thoughts on using the one rated for 125g on a 55 or 75g tank? :notsure: Thanks in advance

    True vs. False Perculas

I had not heard that tank-bred clowns will not host...is this always the case....anyone have any experience with a tank-bred hosting? Thanks:thinking:

    Tank & stocking decisions!

:D lol - I wouldn't dream of putting a tang in a 58 or 65g tank for fear of the tang police! :) I agree they are lovely - I really want a yellow tang, but have vowed to resist until I (sometime in the very distance future!) get a bigger tank.

    Tank & stocking decisions!

I am debating between two different tanks for my first SW setup. One is 65g - 48"x18"x17" and the other is 58g - 36"x18"x21". I want to keep basic low light soft corals, some basic inverts, and the following fish... 1 pair ocellaris or percular clownfish 1 flame angel 1 Yellow watchman goby 1...

    True vs. False Perculas

Any thoughts on the pros and cons of a pair of these. Which are hardier? more peaceful? smaller/larger? easier to get to host in something like a BTA? anything else I might have forgotten? Thanks in advance

    Pak Mix Sand?

Yes, it kept fizzing for quite a while and everytime I moved it a bit, it fizzed some more.... Yes, it is the stuff you found on the web...perhaps it is a mix of aragonite and silica (hence the silica warning)? Or maybe there is something else you can make sand of that fizzes with vinegar?

    Pak Mix Sand?

Well I went back to home depot today and gathered a small amount of the PakMix Play Sand that had spilled out of the bags. I brought it home and added some vinegar and....much to my surprise....it bubbled! This suggests it is aragonite and good for aquariums right?! Have I discovered a...

    30-45 Gallon SaltWater Tank

I haven't actually watched 'Forensic Files' but I work in a crime lab as a biologist - I do the blood stuff and DNA profiling.... fish.... I pretty much agree with what the other people have said. One thing I would mentions is that you can get LR online from a variety of places, some at very...

    30-45 Gallon SaltWater Tank

I am a newbie to SW also, but I have done a ton of research, and I disagree with Agent14. As I understand it, smaller tanks are harder to successfully maintain as it is less tolerant of beginner's mistakes and water quality can deteriorate very quickly (causing fish deaths very quickly). Most...

    Pak Mix Sand?

Ok, thanks very much for the help. I will try to get a small amount to test and then consider whether I want to give silica a try if that is what it turns out to be.... Thanks again

    Pak Mix Sand?

This particular sand didn't say anything about it's composition on the bag....is that a good sign? On the website, all it mentions is that you should not inhale the dust as it contains crystalline silica and that it can be used for a variety of purposes (including sandblasting!). Does any of...

    Pak Mix Sand?

How can I tell if a particular sand is a 'middle of the road quartz based sand'?

    Pak Mix Sand?

Yes, my understanding from previous threads is that Old Castle and Yard Right are the same thing and the same as the desirable Southdown. I checked Pak Mix's website again, and it does warn that the product may contain 'harmful crystalline silica' so it is like to be silica based sand. However...

    Caribbean LR

:notsure: Now I am worried about the smell....even though I am the only person in the house. Is pre-cured rock any better with regards to the smell?

    Acrylic vs Glass

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think although glass is winning the poll, I am still going to go with an acrylic tank. The main reason is weight (since I can get either for the same price) - I am on my own, and really don't fancy trying to set up a tank that I need at least one other person to...

    Pak Mix Sand?

Has anyone heard of this make of Play Sand? My local HD sells it - it doesn't say anywhere on it what it is made of, but it is white and looks pretty good... I checked their website and it was not any more helpful! Is there some way I can find out if it is ok to use in my aquarium - I know I...

    Caribbean LR

Thanks everyone for their advice. I think I will probably go with uncured instead of pre-cured to set up my new tank as it is so much cheaper if I am going to get die off anyway. The only concern I have is smell - I don' t have a basement here in AZ and it is too hot outside, so it will have to...

    Live rock - uncured?

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between 'pre-cured' and 'uncured' LR, given that both apparantly need to be cured before use according to the instructions they are sold with? Also, anyone have any experience with 'Caribbean' LR - is it as good as Fiji LR? Thanks in advance

    Caribbean LR

Does anyone have Caribbean LR and if so, how do you like it/dislike it compared to the more normal Fiji LR? Also, what is the difference between 'pre-cured' and 'uncured' LR - they both still need to be cured at home according to the instructions... :notsure: Thanks in advance :happyfish
