Ok, I have searched the MB to find an answer to my question and cant find much that fits exactly. Can anyone tell me how to lower the PH in my tank and also the Alkalinity. They are both off the charts and water changes dont seem to make a difference. I am looking for something quick to fix...

does it matter about the hardness or do I need to correct it?

After reading some of the threads about the brown stuff in the sand being diatoms, can anyone tell me if they are a threat to the fish and how to get rid of them. :notsure:
