    Next step to take?

It was the bagged stuff from the LFS - all I could get my hands on at short notice. It looks great - but the water is still a bit cloudy - thats from the new sand right??

    What to do next??

Thank you for the response guys, I do appreciate it. It has really been a heart breaking experience. I've had most of my fish for a couple of years and several of the fish had lived thru some rough patches but always pulled thru. I am just going to watch it for awhile then.

The tank is 55 gal. Would it be wise at this point to do a 50% water change?

    Skimmer

I had a heater explode in my tank in early December. My LFS is baby sitting my fish for me. We did a 5 gal water change a day for 10 days to get rid of the smell and hopefully the bad water. I have done several more changes since and the nitrates just won't come down. all of the other levels...

    Skimmer

Can anyone tell me if a skimmer not operating properly (or not at all) will cause a rise in the nitrates? Will it help reduce them if a buy a new one?

    Please Can Anybody Help!! Urgent

Yes, they are relatively new to the area and so far I love them. I am also very happy to report that all of my fish survived. My serpent starfish was still alive when I left the lfs the only thing I am worried about was the sea cucumber - he wasn't looking to good. I don't have many or even...

    Please Can Anybody Help!! Urgent

The problem is the water stinks. It smells burnt. There is a haze in the water. If I remove most of the water and replace it with store bought salt water won't that start another cycle and kill everything?

    Please Can Anybody Help!! Urgent

At 2 am last night my heater exploded in my 55 gal tank. There was a lot of sparks with the raw element sitting in the water. The smell is something terrible. I started getting all of the glass out of the tank, only then to realize that the fish were all in major distress and dying fast. I...

Equipment suggestions for setting up 125 Gallon

Ok - I am very releaved to hear that about the bubble algae. My bubbles are more like air bubbles that are filtering out of the sand bed. I have ordered more cleaners are mine are diminished. I put in tap the last few times that I topped up. I normally use filtered though.

    Help with algae....Please

The tank is right at 1 yr old. I don't know of anything that I could have done other than add a couple of new fish, that would have started a cycle. The only thing that changed dramatically are the lights. The tank does look alot like a new setup at the moment which is what made me think...

    Help with algae....Please

Jester, That stinks that the snails aren't working. I was really hoping that they would. Do you have alot of bubbles in your algae? My sand bed in some areas is covered in bright green algae and has bubbles stuck all over it.

    Help with algae....Please

I appreciate the help. Will some crabs not eat the algae? I ordered a lawnmower blenny as well as the crabs and snails. I was really running low on those. My lfs sold me all sorts of kits. I will check to see if there is one there and check what you said. Keep me posted on what you find...
