    the flame has gone out

I lost my flame angel Monday night. bur I can't figure out why? I had him since my tank had been set up (7 mos). All of my fish were doing great. My wife thiught he looked a bit pale in comparison to his usually bright orange color. He was eating like a pig. No one was bothering him. Just don't...

    Livesand Vs. CC

Definatly go live sand. I just switched over LS from CC and I am so much happier with my tank and the fish seem to like it better too! Goof, If you are going to switch, a really easy way to get the cc out without losing alot of water is to use a cat litter scoop (a BIG one), preferably not used...

    Advice on stocking

I would be careful with the eel. when he does grow a bit, so will his appetite. the chromis or clown could be a snack. If he seems to be getting a bit aggressive, I would move him out.

    LS from swf.com

Yeah its the same stuff as the lfs ( prepackaged. I just used it and love it.For those of you who are going to or are considering switching from CC to LS, one of the easiest ways I found to get the CC out of the tank without losing alot of water is to use a very large cat litter scoop. But...

What is this NO CYCLE stuff?

I just used 40lb of this stuff to switch from CC to LS. I have had no problems or setbacks at all. My fish seem to love this stuff compared to the CC. At least now my grammas can burrow a hole under my coral without killing themselves trying to move CC! I would highly recommend using it in an...

    sand/CC

I just switched from CC to LS and trust me, you and you fish will like the LS better. It just seems more eye apealing and the fish have an easier time moving it around if the burrow.

Should I add Caulerpa algae to tank for fish to eat?

I tried feeding my regal tang and my emperor and flame angle this stuff, but they just picked at it. My longnose butterfly loved it! I think the rest of them are just hooked on the seaweed selects!

JUst switched from CC to LS

It looks a thousand times better and more natural than cc. My grammas seem to be able to get in their favorite hiding spaces a bnit easier now that the can move the sand around better than the cc. Well worth the switch. :p

JUst switched from CC to LS

I just finished swithcing from CC to LS. I cannot thank enought the person who had posted that when they had done this, they used a 3-4" diameter PVC pipe to put the sand in. Just pour the sand down the tube and when the tube is full, gently lift about 2-3" up and sprerad the sand aroung, very...

    Boiling artificial coral

B Ball, I currently am having a little prob with elevated nitrates and this would likely lead to the demise of a clean up crew. I plan on going from cc to ls and hopefully help this situation. Mr salty, as I mentioned in my 1st post, I was refering to ARTICIFIAL CORAL, not dead coral. I would...

    Boiling artificial coral

I know no one is a big fan of artificial coral, but for those of you who do have it, here is a really easy way to clean it: Boil it in water for about 5 min. LET IT COOL OFF BEFORE YOU PUT IT BACK IN THE TANK !!!!! Rinse in cool water before puting it back. All of the brown algae and crud built...

    radiation from x-rays affect fish?

Just fyi: The amount of radiation produced in one of those xray machines at the airport is very minimal. The fish should be fine. Also, there is no gamma radiation produced from xary machines, just x-rays. Gamma would be from outer space i.e. the sun. :D How do I know this? I'm a CAT scan...

    HELP WITH HLLE !!!!!!!!!!!

OK here is where I am with the battle on HLLE: I was using carbon but have since stopped (HLLE was there before carbon). I tried the broccoli theory, he hit at it but stopped after about 10 min or so (soaked it in tank water and zoecon). He seem to be better, not worse so I would say it has now...
