Refugium with skim. vs. Bioballs w/ skimmer??

Thanks for the comments. I will probably go ahead with a fuge, and add euther an ETSS 500 or 600 or else an Aquac EV 120 or 180. Anybody else have a comment???? Also, with a refugium, should you have carbon filtration as well OR just a refugium with live rock, calurpa, and a skimmer???

Refugium with skim. vs. Bioballs w/ skimmer??

I have a 72 bow, and can only fit a 12" sump (front to back), and have already decided to buy either an ETSS 500 or 600, or an Aquac EV 120 or 180. I just need to build the sump to fit one of these skimmers. I would like a refugium, but am waiting for more feedback as to bioball&skimmer vs...

    Lowering Nitrates

So from what I gather you only have 5.5 inches of fish in a 46 gallon tank. If you have 1 lb of live rock per gallon and this minimal amount of fish, overfeeding must have a lot to do with nitrates being a bit high. I always double check for any snails or crabs that may have died everytime I do...

    Etss vs. Aquac?

Anyone have knowledge of these two different skimmers? I am contemplating an Aquac EV 120 or EV180 skimmer or an ETSS 500 or 600 skimmer. Any input would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has a different skimmer and would like to comment, or has advice on what definitely not to buy, that would...

Refugium with skim. vs. Bioballs w/ skimmer??

In your opinion, for a tank that has fish and anemones, that will eventually house corals, would you suggest a wet/dry with bioballs and a skimmer, or a refugium with a skimmer, or a canister filter?

Thinking about a sump and need some help!

I am getting ready to do the same thing, and I've heard that when I add the sump, I would want to keep both the canister filter and sump running for a few weeks together until the sump is built up enough for the bioload, then remove the canister. Just something to think about....any comments...
