    Tang in a 46?

I really wouldn't. I had a yellow in a 45 gallon QT. He was the only fish and minimal decorations and he still paced in the corner constantly, his colors were faded and he was generally stressed. Finally when he was added to the display he is fine and acts normal now. I know it's hard to...

Please, take a look and leave feedback

Sweet! Is there any way you could have a battery backup that would come on and run some powerheads in the tank in the event the power goes off?

need help putting sand in a tank

I would siphon out as much water as you can and move the livestock to a separate container with some of the tank water, a powerhead, and a heater. Then take all the CC out, clean the tank thoroughly, add the sand and the water that does not have livestock in it to the tank, fill the rest with...

    The Worst Story Ever!!!!!!

I feel bad for the guy and for the livestock. Hopefully they catch the dirtbag. Somebody did something similar in Tampa, they went in and put a tablet of something (I think it was chlorine) into the marine tanks and it killed the entire saltwater section. To my knowledge they never caught the...

how fast will this guy grow?

Keep a close eye because he will grow alot faster than the Humu (Rhinecanthus are notoriously slow growers) . As soon as he can fit him or the clown in his mouth he will. Leaving the Gramma in there is just cruel imo. The other thing is that PGs are messy eaters and poop alot. I wouldn't...

use a net to herd him into a bowl, this is what I used to move my puffer from QT to DT and he was never out of the water so he was not traumatized.

    First Lionfish caught in Florida

Lionfish and other invasives have proliferated the eastern seaboard and caribbean for some time now. I recently saw where 50 adult Lions were pulled off a shipwreck off the coast of NC. Pythons are becoming a problem in the everglades, I guess everyone has seen where the gator was eaten and...

Would a puffer be OK with these...

I have one and they are great fish. Very intelligent and entertaining. I would be wary of putting him in with the firefish and the goby. He will most likely nip their tails. He may also sample the anemone so keep an eye out for that.

    Help!!

There is no way to know for sure because there are so many variables. You'll have to wait and see. Lions are pretty hardy so they have a better shot than most and of course they would be covered by the guarantee.

Bigger tanks better for beginners, but can you have too big?

SW fish get alot larger than you realize and need alot of space plus water volume for the bioload so bigger is better. As for your list, some of these fish are not compatible. Puffers, hawkfish, and the wrasse will possibly eat or harass the clowns, cardinal, gobies, and chromis. The comet is...

    Fish tank smell

I agree that a smelly tank is a bad sign. I actually hardly ever test and just go by the smell. If it smells like anything other than fresh clean ocean then it's time for a good sized water change.

    thinking about a lionfish....

I wouldn't worry too much about getting stung. Just keep an eye on him if you do have to reach in the tank on occassion. I have a very curious little puffer that I'm kind of afraid to get bit by. I use the magnet scrubber and a long handled tool that has changeable scoop/scrubber/scraper that...

    Aggressive Royal Gramma

Jon is correct that there are two similar species. mine was most definately Gramma Loreto not Gramma Brasiliensis (sp?)- the coloring is slightly different. The only thing we can determine is that I got an aggressive male. He went into the tank as the first fish and it was about a month...

    Bicolor Parrotfish ?????

The bicolor parrotfish (Cetoscarus bicolor) gets 30" long and has an extremely poor survival record in captivity due to the fact that they eat mostly algae from between the polyps of corals. They are pelagic swimmers and most definately not reef safe. They will munch on corals looking for the...
