    Opinions on a Lighting Fixture

Can I please get some opinions on the Current Orbit Compact Fluorescent Luner Lights (4x65). http://www.**************.com/Produc...&N=2004+113345 http://www.current-usa.com/products/orbit.html This would be on a 75 gal tank. Currently fish only, but I'm working on adding live rock and hope to...

Feel like I have to start over

I'm with you. I've been happily plugging along with my fish only tank then I found these boards. LOTS of stuff I want to do now! My plan is to take it slow and make the changes little by little. New light and RO unit soon. Slowly add live rock. Change out the CC after that.

    Garage Pool?

Boy, that sounds like fun. Careful on the stand. I had a 125 gallon version I used as an actual koi pond. The liners are designed to be in the ground and have the soil help hold it's shape. You may have to do some special rigging to keep it solid.

    algae problems

I have a 75 and had the same problem as you. Although mine isn't stocked as much and I don't have as much light I added 15 hermits, 14 snails and a lmb and they are doing a great job. I also added a 300 gph powerhead to move the water a little more. They did such a great job, I bumped up my...

Massive Algae Problems - What to do? (pics)

I'm in the process of curing the same thing. My solutions were: a) Cut back on lighting b) Bump up the water changes c) Bump up the cleanup crew (snails, hermits, and a lmb) d) Cut back the feeding It's made a world of difference. The next thing I'm going to try is buying a RO unit and not...

    Hawkfish - What a Ham

I was playing around with the camera the other night and my Spotted Hawkfish was posing nicely. He sure has a lot of personality.

    sand verus coral

Removing half at a time is a great idea. Thanks. It's not "broke" but your first post of this thred opened my eyes a bit. When I vacuum the cc it's pretty gunky. I don't mind taking a step back to take two forward. My goal is to slowly make improvements and start toward some coral and other...

    Power Head Hanging Funny

I just picked up a Penguin 1140 tonight to try and improve my water circulation a bit. I put it about half way down toward the back of the right side wall. I used the suction cup to attach it. The problem is it hangs crooked. The whole thing is tilted down and kind of flops around a bit...

    sand verus coral

Great thread! I have an established fish only tank with a very thin layer of CC. What kind of impact would it have it I removed the CC and put in rinsed sand? I'm assuming the CC provides some biological filtration. Would removing it cause a cycle or other problems? Thanks!

Going from Fish Only to Coral

Thanks for the tips. I think I might move into this slowly. Get a powerhead and RO unit first. Then possibly some live rock and sand. Two followup questions: a) Does live rock require the improved lighting? b) Is it ok to add sand/live sand to my existing crushed coral substrate? I'd hate to...

Going from Fish Only to Coral

I've had my fish only talk setup and running for over 5 years now. I moved to a new house a year and a half ago and am since having a big alge problem. I'm guessing it's the well water. I don't know what kind of alge it is but it covers every surface in a black blanket. It is very easy to...
