What is the recipe for live rock? if I remember right it's 4 parts crushed oyster shells and 1 part cement. Or is it 5 to 1? Thanks.

    drilling a hole through glass

I'm through. That was kind of harrowing the first time. It ended up kind of breaking through at the end. The 'core' has a really sharp collar on the bottom side.

    drilling a hole through glass

    closed loop hole distance

Thanks for the pics. I'll check out those screens. That gives a lot more options for rock placement.

    closed loop hole distance

My logic was that the SCWD was going to be the limiting factor. Since the system is going to be alternating it's return, one at a basically. So two 1" drains will be supplying one 1" return. I'm curious about the screens from Lowe's or HD you mentioned? I had planned to use the conical screen...

    closed loop hole distance

No, i would like a lionfish and a 'Popeye Catalufa Soldierfish'. I could make the intake as large as I need. Should i restrict the flow or get a smaller pump? I will have ball valves at all of the in and outlets if i need to replace the pump or whatever.

    closed loop hole distance

It's a little more than a 100 gallon (5'x1.5'x2') with a 55 gallon sump. I was going for as much flow as I could afford. I believe the pump and the SCWD both have 1" in and outlets, so I went with 1" bulkheads and PVC. I had the tank set up several years ago, and bought the equipment 8 months...

    closed loop hole distance

1" bulkheads, mag-drive 2400 gph and a 1" SCWD wave maker. I do plan to have rock work covering the intakes. The return from the overflow, which is centered on the back, come over the overflow and let out on either side at the bottom of the tank. I will have 20 degree elbows on the loop outlet's...

Both. The 2 drains in the bottom corners. And the 2 returns in the top corners.

    closed loop hole distance

I'm drilling my tank for a closed loop system. How far from the edges of the tank should I drill them? I was thinking 3" from the top and sides. And 5" from the bottom, because of the sand bed. Thoughts? Thanks.

    Closed loop system

I'm planing a closed loop system with a SCWD (wave maker). I don't want to have to buy 2 diamond hole saw drill bits so I was wondering if I could use 1" holes for the supply and return? The limiting factor is going to be the pump and/or the return with the SCWD. I was going to go with a 500 or...

first fill - non RO water

I decided on buying an RO/DI unit. I don't have anyplace to mount it but I plan to build a stand. It was a no brainer. Thanks to everyone for their response.

    Closed loop idea

I would like to see the pictures if you can find them. I checked out Harbor Freight, they have really cheap diamond bit sets. I've used a dremel in the past, I remember it zipping out of control across the wood. I would clamp a plywood template in place before trying it. I would need 4 holes...

    Closed loop idea

My original idea would have drawn from the display tank, it remains at a constant level, right to the top of the overflow, even when the system shuts down. But I really didn't think that was a great idea anyway, pumps and water up next to my lights. I would like to check out your old posts, and...
