Hydor Koralia size for 40 gallon

I have a 40 gallon flat back HEX. It is 20 inches tall and 36inches across the back. At the front it 24 inches wide. I curently have 2 penguins producing 320 total, a skimmer giving me another 100, and a empty Eheim canister filter with at least 175. This gives me a little over 10x turnover. I...

    Kalk dosing with no sump?

I did purchase a pump for this purpose but it was too fast and too loud. Nice little pump and I may need it for something else someday. But mod was going to be uggly to get what I wanted. Then I ran across a reefer who was using the pressurized jug setup. I constructed and pressurized setup...

    Kalk dosing with no sump?

Thanks for reply. I know that many people just set a container above the tank and let gravity do the work. However my wife does not want a big jug setting on top of the canopy . I have an unlimited supply of industrial grade Calcium Oxide, so this will be much cheaper than using 2 part...

    Kalk dosing with no sump?

As the title says I have no sump and wish to add limewater back to my display. I have bought a peristaltic pump for this purpose, but it is loud and I would have to either slow pump speed down or divert some of the flow to get a slow drip rate. What I would like to do is pressurize a container...

    lighting question from newbie

Thanks for reply! I have about 4 1/2 inches from top of canopy to plexyglass over water. I would have to mod my canopy to get some distance for MH. Also I am very new and just want to start out with some easy coral. Ease into it with some mushroom, softies and then maybe some zoos. Anyone else?

    lighting question from newbie

:help: :help: One more question guys and gals. Would I be better off going with a t-5 now rather than later. All my reading has just left me more confused. There seem to be more bulb color choices for t-5 as well as longer lamp life. I have narrowed it down to 3 choices. 1. Vho setup run by...

    Diamond Goby R.I.P

Lost first fish today My Diamond Goby must have jumped out of the tank while I was adding water last night. Moved all the rock around, only to find him under stand. Lesson learned, always make sure all fish, ect. are accounted for after I put tank cover back on. Tough lesson at $20

    lighting question from newbie

Thanks, Did not buy MH and PC lights. Looking at DIY 24" VHO setup. Would 150w of VHO allow me to keep some zenia coral and some mushrooms. Could add second ballast for total of 300w a little later. I have been searching on board and finding answers. It is just nice to have some direct feedback.

    Stocking question

Tank has been cycled, and good levels for 2-3 weeks. Good advice on Chromis, dont want to feed fish 3 times a day! I dont plan on having any coral. So flame angel would not be a problem for me. What would be another easy fish to put with the Angel. Clowns and Diamond Goby. Upper layer of...
