Sounds like it could zoa pox. There is an article on it on Reef Central. It's in the zoanthid forum. Can you post pictures of the white spots? Are the polyps sitll opening up? Or do they stay closed?

I would not recommend adding anything you find on the beach to your tank. Unless you start it in a QT tank, and allow for whatever disease or parasites might be on it to die off. I passed up alot of snails and crabs at Cocoa Beach a few weeks back. I know it would be nice to collect the stuff...

Are the polyps that are being dropped or cut off dying? My xenia drop polyps all of the time. After a few days you can see them starting to pulse. Also, can you see, off of the stalk, a arm missing a polyp? Or multiples? I would watch the fallen polyps, and see if they die, or just start a new...
