But i know that there has to be "things" for the sealife to cling to,s o for the re to be fish and shrimp and stuch to find, it would have to be on a reef or rock formation or something, where can i find things liek this like within swimming distance? please let me know

I would not recommend adding anything you find on the beach to your tank. Unless you start it in a QT tank, and allow for whatever disease or parasites might be on it to die off. I passed up alot of snails and crabs at Cocoa Beach a few weeks back. I know it would be nice to collect the stuff for free, but if the collected stuff kills off everything in your tank, how free does it end up being??
I just recommend using extreme caution if you are dead set on collecting from the wild. Not trying to bash you by any means, just giving a heads up.

go to Calidesi Island. Pretty clear, but you have to snorkel around. Last summer we saw some box fish. Some kid actually caught one in a sand bucket and let it go. I thing I still have a pic of it. I have never seen starfish around that area. But snorkel around enough you might. But I would leave that stuff there.

Hey buddy. I live in Clearwater and unfortunately the name is very misleading. The water really isnt very clear at all. It is all just bare sand bottom with no structure. There really isnt any sealife worth collecting. If you do come over to the west coast and you are interested in seeing sealife I would highly recommend going to Honeymoon Island in Dunedin. It's not much further than Clearwater Beach and it's much more isolated. You can find Sand Dollars, Conches, and hermits. There are some tidal pools that are pretty cool to check out. There isnt anything I would ever want to put in my tank but it's a great place to visit.

Are they still having a red tide problem? I know the Sarasota area is getting hit really bad, and I thought Honeymoon was starting up again.
There were a ton of sand dollars on our sand bar this year. We let them be.........well, we took one. I wouldn't put those in the tank though.

I havent been out lately this year. I remember how bad last year was. My girlfriend I sat on the sand bar and watched the dead fish drift by.
We savored the romantic moment and made this!!!!!

You cant beat cladesi, honeymoon and the near by inlets. Starfish, hermits, fiddlers, crabs, shrimp, lookdowns, filefish, boxfish, shark, seahorses, pipefish, horse shoe crabs, sand dollars, jellyfish, gorganians, polyps, macro algae,................ pretty much whatever you want. True that the red tide has moved in but has not effected the area too much yet. Give it two weeks and i wouldnt go.

last summer the ride tide was so bad that a box floated by me

and a loggerhead washed up
alive, but very sick. Clearwater Marine came to get her. 2 puffed up puffer fish washed up also.

I just don't want it in October......we are heading back for a few days. As long as I can take my walks, see my manatee and dolphins and sit on the balcony at night, I'll be a happy girl :happyfish

yep, oh lovesthesea still a great place to boat, fish, walk, swim and snorkel just some dead fish. Sill a ton to see. No smell or anything because the tide and wind moves so rapidly through that pass

Weekends are crazy for me so I won't be able to meet up with you or anything. Head out to Honeymoon Island or Caladesi and take a snorkel. You'll have a blast.
Just google em both and you'll find tons of info.
