Aqua C Remora Pro Protein Skimmer

First off, don't make the mistake of putting any jet smaller than a 1200 on it. If you stick with it, I'd recommend a Maxi-Jet 1200 (as per instructions) Next, if you have a tank with power lighting (like I have) I found myself constantly adjusting the skimmer (HOB) because of evaporation and it...

    Protien skimmer ?

I purchased the Ramora w/ box and it works excellent. The box is a little awkward, and especially to adjust as evap occurrs, but it functions 100% as expected. Cleans like a champ and keeps the microbubbles waaaay down. Reed

    Cyanobacteria - New Tank

sepulatian -- thanks for your help. It is much appreciated and I still need it. :) I have added a pinch of food, how long will it take to spike the ammonia? Hours/Days? Secondly, when I said in my previous post "Start Over" I was inferring removing all the water, and starting again. Do you think...

    Cyanobacteria - New Tank

I agree with you not thinking it was a good idea, problem was by the time I posted it was too late -- otherwise I would have told that crack smoker at the LFS to have a nice day. I will take your suggestion and add a pinch of food. However, please correct me if I'm wrong, but can Nitrates exist...

    Cyanobacteria - New Tank

Good point, my rock was cured, yes. I didn't really monitor closely the first few days and I was told by the LFS that it could cycle in a couple days with the amount of rock I have and it's quality. My story is quite interesting, posted a few days ago, but in short, I was given the OKAY to use...

How Vital is a Protien Skimmer?

Oh, thats another thing. I had *alot* of microbubbles in my water...but after the Ramora was intalled, they are almost non-existent as well. My tank just looks really really clean. Best of luck to you.

Is this a good lighting system?

Rackyrane, I have the Outer Orbit 10,000K MH. Model #1042 (48"). I paid about $650 from my LFS for my 75g. Super bright light -- I really like the reflection of water throughout the tank; and on my walls. -- moon lights are also very cool. It runs pretty hot and may cause my to...

    Cyanobacteria - New Tank

I have a lot of LR & LS, should I be using something else? I was told that these two can be used to cycle and that I wouldn't have to introduce anything else. Is this correct?

How Vital is a Protien Skimmer?

I was told since my tank was new (only 4 days now), I didn't really need one. However, I saw a lot of organic buildup on top of my water and since I've installed the Ramora, it is all gone. Inside my Ramora, a nasty lookin soupy brown mess. I'd get one. Better to be early than late anyway.

Live Rock - Red Growth - ID Please?

I think this is the beginning of corraline algae? Then look back at the pic I posted originally. Just to the left of...

EHEIM Professional II - Canister Filter

Thank you! Yea, I've learned some hard lessons with FW --- I just got a little bored with it. I'm SOOO excited about this SW setup. I'm going to purchase a couple damsel's tomorrow to kick start the cycling process, then daily water tests to follow until complete. I figure about a month before I...
