Feeding feather dusters

Direct feeding are recommended verts will get use to the feedings. But yes they will filter the microvert out of the water. If you have a large skimmer just turn it down for a hour or two.

    How many pounds...

I have a 75 gal reef with about 100 lbs LR, 40lbs LS, 20lbs aragontic. I agree LR comes from many different parts of the 4 oceans. Weights and sizes differ. Remember most corals and polys come attached to LR.

Read the emails SWF send you. The six day warrenty is simple. Week days send the dead fish or verts back in a double ziplock bag immediately. Add a little salt in the bag get a 16 oz bottle of your tank water. On weekends...

Flame angel in a reef tank?

I have a coral beauty and it wasn't a problem until I noticed it taking a nibble or two at my clams  But it looked like it was doing a taste test and doesn't bother them anymore. :D But rule of thumb is NO ANGLES swim at...

    ONE more lighting question...

I use 2 x 175 MH before that I had 6 x 55 PC's (2 actinic blue). If you do the math 350watts vs 330watts. The only reason I did this was to give my tank top some breathing room. The PC's covered my entire top and made it difficult to put things in and out of the water. When I changed to MH I...

your worst mess up on a reef tank

Okay I had two horriable screw-ups. The first was when I got my first reef tank set up and my fish catch ICK. I treated the tank with copper treatment saved the $40 worth of fish kill $160 worth of inverts. Second screw-up I was...

    giant clams

I use 2 x 175 MH before that I had 6 x 55 PC's. If you do the math 350watts vs 330watts. The only reason I did this was to give my tank top some breathing room. The PC's covered my entire top and made it difficult to put things in and out of the water. When I changed to MH I gained access to...

    I need opinions

You are fine with the amount of LR you have. I would just to add another 1 to 3 inches of sand to the tank, around your base rock. I would at least add 20lbs of LS to help seed the new sand bed. Don't remove the plenum but the aragonite is heavier that sand and might work its way to the bed...

    Mushrooms ...

Don't worry about mushrooms not being on a rock. They detach themselves due to a couple of reasons. -- over crowded on the rock -- seeking better lighting or water movement If they open up fully in their new location. They will surely reproduce faster than before. :) Hey Rick you're going...

    reef lighting

I work early, so when I get home I want to see my fishies. I have my actinics turn on at 0900 and off at 2100 . My MH turn on a 1000 and off at 2000.

To much light? Is it possible?

Make sure your MH are at lease 12 inches off the top of the water. I use (2) 175watt 10k on a 75 gal, stack your rock work to allow shadow areas for mushrooms. The sudden change in light could shock low light corals because they have less zooxanthellae. Zooxanthellae use chlorophyll to absorb...

    red and brown algae

First of all congrats on the light upgrade. More light is better than low light. Your problem can be contributed to more than one thing. -- Check your Phosphate level it maybe too high. zero is ideal anything over .5 is dangerous. -- Raise your calcium to 350 - 450 ppm coraline algae love it...
