    Ripped off by my lfs!

Before you get really upset with him you have to understand what it is to run a small business. Almost EVERY business marks their product up about double what they pay. It is just what has to be done to pay rent, electric, employees. Just think if he had only one employee who made 10,000 a...

55gal tank or 75? First timer...

I agree with starting with a fish only tank if it is fish you want. I am trying to set a 75 gallon up for a reef and with the lighing and skimmer alone, well......it is a more than the entire cost of my 55 gallon fresh water tank. Once you get your lights and rocks the cost is not so great...

    Copepods

I really don't know and was actually having the conversation about this issue last night......I would assume that since they are mostly in tropical enviornments that the temp has to be as well. Maybe someone who knows a lot more than me will come along and clarify this :-)

    Protein Skimmer Advice

Turboflotor 1000 multi. It will be able to handle about any bioload you put in your 125. You can find them for around 220 if you look hard enough.

    Starting A 75

I have been reading on skimmers a lot as I too am starting a 75 gallon tank. I finally decided to get the turboflotor multi as it seems to be on the better side with quality, reliability, and ease of use, not to mention it is one that can hang on back. From all the professionals I have talked...

    Carbon

I hear mixed things on carbon and the tanks. I have not heard a reason why running carbon is bad so I use it when I finish my set-up. I use matrix carbon currently on my freshwater and it is a very clean carbon and I have great results with it (I plan to use this on my SW as well).

    more questions

I ended up buying a Turboflotor multi. THat is one that can hang on the back but if you have a sump they have one that is a little cheaper. I went with the turboflotor because it will handle about any bioload I put into a 55 or 75 gallon tank. I know of some people who ran tanks over 200...

How long should the lights be on?

That is good to know. I don't mind running the MH 12 hrs a day but I wasn't sure if that was too much light. I probably won't do a "combo" light fixture if I don't have to purchase as that is just energy that it looks like I don't need as of yet. If anyone else has something they would like...

How long should the lights be on?

So Dave would you think running 2x150 MH for 10 -12 hrs a day would be good?

How long should the lights be on?

I am currently putting together a 75 gallon tank and trying to figure out what lighting system i want to go with. I have been reading that a 2 x 150 w MH set would allow me to keep just about anything in my tank but I am not sure how long I should leave the lights on. I don't want to get...

    New "extreme" PC vs. MH

I was reading some about the odyssea light fixtures and that some people have had problems. What do you think about the quality of the product? I think for the price it sounds amazing. Just wanting to get some feedback from anyone who may have one of the new fixtures with the new ballast.

    So many abbreviations

Can someone list the most common abbreviations that are used in the saltwater lingo? I get a little lost when people start to use them so I figured if I could get several that are most common that would help me read the posts. I guess before you can learn the hobby you have to learn the lingo...

    anyone in Oklahoma city

Opps I didn't know I couldn't post a website ha-ha. yeah, like anything you have the products you make your money and the products you make your customers. I just always get nervous when it comes to online orders with "live" anything lol. Although I get nervous, I still want to get the most...

Giving Up Before Getting Started - So Confused

One post mentioned to get the best skimmer you can afford. I have talked to several people in the Oklahoma area and have heard nothing but good things about the turboflotor multi. It is a skimmer that is very good and can be placed in a sump or hang on the side of the aquarium. One lady I...

    Lighting, how much is good?

Ok, I understand most of what was said. I am confused by the initials pc, and the initials that went with the corals. I currently have a light fixture made by current called a satellite 2x65 watt with lunar lights. It has the actinic and the 10,000 k bulbs. I would like to have anemones at...

    Lighting, how much is good?

I haven't put anything in it yet. I am still running a freshwater tank and getting everything I need to change it over to a saltwater tank. My freshwater tank only needed 2-2.5 watts per gallon so I had a light strip that fit the circumstances. I wasn't sure how much lighting I would need to...
