I dont really know why you would quarintine it it shouldnt have any organic matter. It will have some fine rock powder that you could rinse. No organic matter=no die off= no levels spike.

Im pretty sure you are right in that all clownfish are born males. But, i was under the impression that if you leave one alone in a tank, with no other adversary for dominance that it will become a female. And also, it is unanimously reccomended to get one of a smaller size. My initial question...

well... thats my question. Mines already about 2", i dont know how old exactly seeing as it wasnt tank bred. would it make sense to get another one now? Also should i give it a bit of time to make sure that this one is a female?

This is my own question but also very relevent to jp. How old, or more directly, how big should they be before they will be able to mate?
