Dwarfs are generally very safe. I have known many to even eat frozen too.

Reef Tank, With Lionfish Shoping list. HELP!

Bubbles in a saltwater tank is not recommended to very real reasons. It's not a slap to bubble lovers, but they can mess with pH and all kinds of other things. For one, think about what a protein skimmer does. It uses bubble surfaces to collect proteins and bring them out of the tank in a...

Need Advice With Lights For a 55G!

The downfall with the linkable units is you can barely fir more than two units over the tank if you have any plumbing coming off the back. They are nice that you can always add more, but 55 gallon tanks just aren't that wide, lol.

Need Advice With Lights For a 55G!

The linkable fixtures can be found in a lot of places, but I'm telling you, many people use the 4 bulb set power compacts. Unless you want to do sps, then you'll need more, but you'll get great growth out of softies and lps no problem. And the linkale units are about $100 per set of two bulbs...

    Saltwater Newbie

I would say either that or have a turf/algae scrubber.

    2 koria evo 1400 vs 1 koralia magnum 7

Or you could get the MP40, and this will be the one and only powerhead you'll ever need. I don't have one, but I was told about them recently, and holy cow they are amazing....

How do I lower my phosphates?/

It may sound annoying, but let the algae grow! When there's nothing left for the algae to eat, it will go away, and as long as the calcium and other minerals are in balance, beneficial algae like coraline and whatnot will grow in its place. The reason its so bad mixed with high phosphates is...

Need Advice With Lights For a 55G!

I just bought a 55 gallon system, was in the exact same situation as yourslef, and found an amazing light online. I know we can't post links to competitors, but I can post a link to another forum I think? lol, anyway, if they take it down I understand, but I found this, which can definitely do...

    powerhead running while sand settles

I'm not completely helpless. Just not used to setting up tanks of this size. And I've never had a direct upgrade in size. I've always had a break in between tanks.

    powerhead running while sand settles

Jim's fine, and I did rinse the sand before I added it to the tank. I also was running high carbon in the canister before I did the changeover for a bout a week.

    powerhead running while sand settles

Ok, crisis averted, and after just staying up much later than anticipated (about 1-ish) the water settled back down, and I was able to put in Jim (clownfish) and my critters. I took pics this morning. First two are with the blue LEDs, third is with T5 and actinic on, and fourth is Jim...

    powerhead running while sand settles

So, everything had settled down, so I started my rockscaping and breaking down my old tank, and then while adding the sand from my old tank, it's just as cloudy as was initially. So now my clownfish is in a bucket, and I'm scared to put him in. All my water (safe the refuse after it was...

Is there an easy way to set up scrubber??

Well, my idea won't work now, lol, sump is taller than I thought, and no room for a algae scrubber there. My wife said she might let me make a side table for next to the tank since it's dead space now, and maybe I could do something on top of that....

    powerhead running while sand settles

Sump is up! I took out the filter socks for now. No sense in clogging them up! I've never had a project go this smoothly before, lol, normally there's 20 gallons of water somewhere other than the tank....

    powerhead running while sand settles

Well, I've tried both, and neither seems to make it faster. One question though, if I try and set up my sump, will that be a mistake since I'll have sandy milk and crazy flow from the return pump? Or would it help since there would be more volume to the system to help it disperse?

    powerhead running while sand settles

To help keep the surface cleared up I have a powerhead aimed at the surface to knock out that foam while the dust settles. is there anything else I can do to help the process?

Is there an easy way to set up scrubber??

I meant the return line for the canister filter, which would also be pulling from the sump itself. Imagine the intake and return on the edge of a sump, but instead of a return, it'd be an algae scrubber. I've made a really terrible diagram, but it's better than nothing, lol....
