The reason you don't want to cook the shrimp is because it will kill the bacteria that is on it, so by killing the bacteria you slow down the cycle. If you cooked the shrimp in plain water it shouldn't hurt anything but if you cooked it in spices thats another story. Correct me anybody if I'm wrong

I ask because I did hypo with a swing arm and all my fish died :( and nobody told me that a swingarm had a 1% chance of killing ick. I was wondering if something other than a $110 salinity tester would work, if not I'm using copper.

I was wondering what salinity tester you use for hypo.

I just leave it in there. And I don't have cleanup crew.

Sorry it took so long to reply. Well I'm looking at a FOWLR tank for now. I've been thinking about getting a clownfish or two.

It's been since October I've had my FOWLR tank and from then until now I've been battling Ick believe it or not. Well finally I put in a DSB and let it cycle, and now I am ready for fish. What would be some good fish to start with? Thanks in advance

The only thing I've had that kept alot of algea under control was my Lawnmower Blenny, He did a good job on keeping it down on my LR also.

I had the same problem a while back, the way I got rid of it was to take a new toothbrush and scrub that stuff off. Then take a fish net and scoop it out. just my 2cents

I have a used emporer 400 and haven't seen mine do that, my water is also about 1/2" over the lip. I don't know whats the matter with yours.
