    Help setting up refugium

Hi, I am planning on starting a refugium, but I need a little advice. I have a 58 gallon with a oceanic sump model 1. The sump has 2 chambers, one large with a protein skimmer in it and a smaller one with the return pump. Can I just add a light and make the large chamber a refugium or do I need...

I need some help with my tank.

I never tried the Instant Ocean Nitrate Remover, but I tried a lot of the filter media and could never get it to reduce nitrates. I did buy a Nitrate Filter several months ago when I couldnt get my nitrates below 20ppm and it works great. It is expensive $275, but works great have 0 nitrates now.

    Hair Algae Problem redux!

The rest of the tank is pretty much the same. That rock is part of a large piece of rock, so it will be hard to remove. I bought a Sea Hare recently and put it in there but he doesnt do much to the rocks yet, mostly the walls.

    Hair Algae Problem redux!

Hi, I posted what I thought was a hair algae problem and someone correctly noted that I had a cyano bacteria infestation. I went with Boyd Chemi-clean and it looks like the cyano is gone because I had red stuff in my sand bed that is gone, and the red colored hair on the rocks seems to be gone...

    Hair Algae Problem?

I have had this problem for some time now. It seems to get better and then all of a sudden it gets worse. My water parameters are fine: Nitrates 0 PH 8.2 Salinity 1.26 Phosphates 0 I only use RO water. I had my lights on for about 10 hours, but I cut it down to 8 hours for a few weeks now and...

    Slime on top of water

GrouperGenius, I checked my overflow box last night and it looks like the water inside the box is coming right up to the height of the slots that let the water in. How do I lower the level of the water? Thanks for all your help, you have been great!

    Slime on top of water

No, my PH was at 7.75 at the height of the day for weeks and would never go up over 8 unless I put buffer in, but it would go back down by the next day. The only problem is that I have my light sitting on top of the glass.

    Slime on top of water

I did a 15 gallon change last week and a 10 gallon change the week before. I have a Reef Ready tank that has a box in the back that feeds the water to the sump, is that considered an overflow box? I thought the slime would have drained through that box, but it is not.

    Slime on top of water

So it is ok then? I was hoping it was related to my PH problem. I can't seem to keep the PH up. I have to add buffer every week.

    Slime on top of water

Hi, I have a 58 gallon reef tank. It is about two years old. My water parameters are fine ammonia 0, nitrites 0, nitrates < 5. My PH is a little low and i have been having a hard time maintaining it, but I also have this slime/film on the top of the water in the display tank. I put a power...

Coralife Superskimmer or Red Prizm Deluxe Skimmer

I have the SS and the Prizm and I like the SS better. I experienced the same problem as itom37 where it just fills up all of a sudden and it does need constant adjustment. the one I have(65g version) is a little too small for my 58g and I was thinking of upgrading and everyone seems to like the...

Red Sea Coral Pro Salt Calcium Problem

I didn't have my heater in the mixing tub yet and I usually do bring it up to 1.26, this was more of an experiment so I didnt worry so much about the proper paramters. But the same approx salinity/temp with the other salt did have enough calcium. I will try warming the batch up and bringing it...

Red Sea Coral Pro Salt Calcium Problem

I started using Coral Pro Salt about a month ago around the time I discovered I had low calcium about 340ppm. Over that month I have done several 10-20% water changes and a Kalk drip and my calcium level didn't change. After reading a post last week that described a calcium problem with Red...

    Salt Mix

I am having the same problem. I use red sea coral pro with RO/DI water that I make at home and I can't get my Calcium above 360ppm. I have never tested the calcium level in the water that I make up for water changes, I will do that tonight. One of the previous posts asked if wishihadatank had...

    Nitrate problem help!!

The thing that puzzles me is that I have done a 30% water change once a week for three weeks and my nitrate level stays the same when I test it. I would have thought that it would come down a little after each water change.
