My skimmer for some reason quit making such a strong vortex. I have the valve wide open. Is it clogged some where? It is functioning as if I had the valve totally closed. Please help!!!

I can see the vortex but I also have alot of bubbles.

Well in my case I am having a gazillion bubbles shooting into the tank from the skimmer return flow. I have had the skimemr almost 3 weeks now I was hoping they would go away.

Anyone have any good sites or ideas for building a sump for a 55 gal.???

I wish I kne wof the $70. I must of been had by my lfs cause I payed $170 for mine. Anyway..mine seems to work great excpet all the freaking bubbles in the tank. I will be building a sump soon which will be the new home for my skimmer.

Nothing to worry about. My Turbos are all over the joint. They love the glass. Mine are at the top bottom on the pumps and filters you name it. Nothing to worry about.

Don't use Damsels. They are too much of a pain to get out later. If you don't mind spending the extra money use a Clown fish. Boy I wish I had done that. Also use live rock that will help out a lot.

I have only had my tank for a 2 months but I am reluctant to perform frequent changes. I have purchased things such as trace elements, vitamins and calcium to compensate for not doing changes. I do add maybe a gallon of water every other week or so.

Every 2 weeks change water? That seems a little often. I was told once a month if not 2 months. This is why I ask the quetion thoguh..you get so many different answers.

Thanks to everyone for all the information. So the bubbles that are shooting ito the tank from the skimmer water outlet will go away in about a week?

JohnD.....The cup is filling with foam that is turning into water before it can evaporate. My cup was filling up every 15 minutes or so.

So you are saying that there should not be a constant stream of foam continually filling up my collection cup? What is wrong with running the skimemr with the air knob fully closed?

Correction to my last post......When I run the skimmer without air the bubbles don't seem to make it up to the collection cup. But I don't get a gazillion bubbles in the tank either.
