    DIY Fish Trap

Coral Hind: Yeah, I tried the 2 liter bottle, and the fish weren't going anywhere near it! Meowser: Lemme know if you have any questions. I hope it works!

    New fish

Mine's been mowing his way through my HA. I feel like cheering him on each time he takes a bite!

Autojunkie: I posted the 'how to' in the DIY section here: https://forums.saltwaterfish.com/t/371933/diy-fish-trap Good luck!

    DIY Fish Trap

Okay, so I was able to make DIY a fish trap that worked to catch my flame angel. Here's some instructions and pictures. Feel free to modify as necessary -- especially if you need to make it smaller to fit in your tank. Materials required: Three 11"x14" acrylic sheets (about $3 at Home Depot...

    Flame Angel: 58, Me: 1

nycbob: I know, it kills me to take him out. He's a healthy, happy fish and an eye catcher too! He was nipping at all of the corals -- pretty much stunting the growth of about half of my corals. When it came down to it I decided that I'd rather let my corals grow and find another eye catching...

    Flame Angel: 58, Me: 1

That sounds so frustrating! I was so happy when I caught the flame angel. I think my wife got tired by about the 20th time I told her how excited I was... I don't have engineer gobies -- do they ever come up in the water column to eat when it's feeding time?

Shrinking Palys and reduced polyp extension

Okay, so I finally caught the flame angel. I'll take some pics of the corals tomorrow for a baseline and then hopefully things will start getting better in a couple of weeks. Thanks to all for the help, advice and input.

    Flame Angel: 58, Me: 1

Okay, so I'm super excited. After an almost two month long battle (with a short peace treaty on Christmas) I have caught the flame angel which was terrorizing my tank. I tried several variations on a homemade fish trap, spent many nights trying to lure him inside, it and finally, tonight I am...

Shrinking Palys and reduced polyp extension

That makes sense. Now that I'm looking at the pictures, reef, I see why you think the neomeris is losing out to the algae. I was manually removing the neomeris -- it was/is growing like crazy. So the reduction in neomeris from "before" to "after" was 'cause I spent quite a bit of time plucking...

Shrinking Palys and reduced polyp extension

All -> Thanks for the inputs! In emailing with a friend locally we decided the flame angel is to blame. I didn't mention him in the initial post, because I added him before the "before" picture. I think it just took a while for him to begin this bad behavior. After watching him carefully, I...

Shrinking Palys and reduced polyp extension

Hello all, I've noticed that my palys have shrunk. I've also noticed reduced polyp extension on several hard corals. See before pics from about a month ago compared to now. The before and after pictures for the palythoas have a different rock, but the palys all came from the same mother...

Does ballast death = bulb death?

A ballast died on my light (current usa outer orbit). It was the CF bulb. It flashed on and off for a bit and then just died. So, I ordered a new ballast, and installed it. I'm fairly confident I did it correctly ("white to white, black to black"), however the bulb won't start. The bulb...

    Short clip of tank

I'd give it a week or two. I went about crazy trying to 'fix' the micro bubbles coming from my CPR bakpack skimmer when I first set it up. After a while it mostly went away (and I probably somewhat just became used to it).

I would love your hitchhiker opinion.

Excellent! I just ID'ed two things that I've been wondering what they were... Thanks!

    ryberg's 29 Gal (w/pics!)

Oh, and I forgot to mention. The wife got me a used MH light for Christmas. She bought it and has hidden it away someshere. You may be noticing a pattern with buying used equipment ... it seems like you can get some nice equipment used if you are just patient. At any rate, I'm gonna be...

    ryberg's 29 Gal (w/pics!)

Okay, so things are going well. I added another false percula clownfish last night. I'm hoping that they'll get along and become a 'pair'. It's somehow even more fun to see the both of them just kinda milling about the tank. Okay, so I have two questions. First question is about the...

    ryberg's 29 Gal (w/pics!)

Mboss and Subie: Thanks for the input Yeah, I plan on getting more. I'd like to have it 2/3 of the way up in two nice 'piles'. J'm just sitting and watching, waiting for the right deal to come up on live rock. Some people are selling 100 lbs and don't want to break it up. I want more, but...

    ryberg's 29 Gal (w/pics!)

I think for now I'll stay with the percula and the damsel. I'm thinking of adding another percula and crossing my fingers to see if they'll get along. I know it limits what I can get, but I'm not dying to fill the tank (yet!) Prime: You are right. All of this darn chemistry muddles my brain...

    ryberg's 29 Gal (w/pics!)

Okay, so after I got the sand, rock in etc I monitored Ammonia, Nitrites and Nitrates. It only took a week and a half for the Ammonia and Nitrates to come down to zero (I assume it was so fast 'cause of the live rock) I started adding a clean up crew. I started with this guy: I also have...
