My new 55 gallon reef tank

I think I did ok with the outage. Luckily I didn't have anything in the tank yet. But it all tested well. The clean up crew made it through ok. I got the lights on. Looks great. I got the red mushroom corals in the tank. They appear to be doing ok. The crabs and snails are very active. Probably...

My new 55 gallon reef tank

I agree that it had to be something other than the canister filters. I have seen some very nice tanks that have filters on them. If you would have noticed earlier in the thread, I am going to add a 20 gallon sump/fuge. As far the tank being established more, it will be. I am in no rush to stock...

My new 55 gallon reef tank

First I would like to go with several different types of corals. I also like the anemone's that sway in the current. Of course we will have to have "Nemo and Dori". My wife wants one of the blue star fish and one orange one. But I will have to do more research to see if they are compatible. I...

My new 55 gallon reef tank

The brittle worm and the snail are still doing well. The brittle worm comes out and moves around a little now. It seems he/she is active at night or when the room is dark. Is that when they like to move around. Otherwise he/she stays in the branch rock. Any ideas?

Does anyone use those fill your own jug for water?

I am going to use it for my water changes. I use natural spring water out of the ground for major fills. Luckily There is a natural spring watering trough just down the road from me. It test good and the best thing it is free. It also is high in calcium. I wish I could get 5 gallons for $1.30 ...

My new 55 gallon reef tank

I think I will go with the hard cycle. This way all the levels can spike and I know the tank won't go thru mini cycles. Any suggestions.

My new 55 gallon reef tank

Actually there is plenty of room in front. It appears closer than it is. There actually is plenty of swimming room and hiding places. The way the rock actually "lays" in there is deceiving. There is at least 2 to 2 1/2 inches in front of the rock and glass. when we sat it up trouble 93 made sure...

    would a light for a 90 gal work ok on a 125?

I don't know about the lights, but I kinda like the way the tank/stand looks. It gives it character. Just my opinion. Good luck with it and I hope it all works out to your advantage.

My new 55 gallon reef tank

I was just curious about them. I really don't have the intention of using them right now. I had my lfs sell me some for my 10 gallon fresh water. I really dont see where they done it much good. I don't even have them in it any more. The lfs told me not to rinse them????? Although I did when I...

My new 55 gallon reef tank

I agree as well with trouble93. Everyone does things just a bit different. I try to take a little from everyone and use what works for me. I would say that if the maintenance is done,,,and done right, any filtration system will work. It all depends on if you enjoy doing maintenance or consider...

My new 55 gallon reef tank

Hi everyone. Thanks again for all the advice I have been getting. It has only been 4 days since the tank was set-up. We have one (1) snail on the sand and one brittle worm in the branch rock. Both are doing well. The rock looks as if it has came to life as well. All the holes are really defined...

My new 55 gallon reef tank

Thanks trouble93 for answering the questions about the lights and sump/refuge. As far as replacing the bulbs go, yes it will be a chunk of change.($) But it will be worth it. As far as the question about drilling the rock. It wasn't hard although I did break two pieces. To much pressure. The key...

I am not sure sure what you mean by wet/dry yet. My friend who is assisting me would know. I am going to go with a 20 gallon long tank for a sump. I will look up wet/dry for my own knowledge. Thank you
