Starting a 75 Gallon soon - Got questions

Would it be better to put a gate valve in for the refugium if it comes before the gate valve to the skimmer? I don't really understand why the gate valve would come after the T. What difference does it make? Does anybody have any experience with doing it both ways?

Starting a 75 Gallon soon - Got questions

Here is an image of what I am thinking for the plumbing for my sump/refugium. The chamber in the middle is the return. I think I will try the herbie system here. Do I have the valve in the right spot? My understanding is that you reduce the flow on the main drain enough to get the water...

Starting a 75 Gallon soon - Got questions

I just bought 80# of Seaflor Special grade (1-2mm) I think I will get another bag of Aragamax select (0.5-1.5mm). Is this going to be a good size sand for a diamond goby and other sand dwellers/sifters???

    RO/DI Unit Stopped Working

How do you warm it up? I also took the membrane out and ran it. It flowed fine so I know the check valve is fine. I'll have to see what the temp is on the water, I didn't know that would affect it.

    RO/DI Unit Stopped Working

I just got a RO unit for the tank that I will be setting up shortly. I set it up about a month ago and just made about 10 gallons for my QT tank. I went to make more water and nothing comes out. I can adjust the EZ flow restrictor but nothing ever comes out. I get water pressure to the auto...

Starting a 75 Gallon soon - Got questions

Update: Haven't really had much progress. I was supposed to but a 30 gallon long tank for a sump but the guy didn't show up. Still working on that. I replaced the silicone in the 75 gallon tank and it is currently being leak tested. Its been filled since Monday and no leaks so far. I'm...

Starting a 75 Gallon soon - Got questions

I'm wondering what would be recommended as far as powerheads for a 75 gallon tank. Would 2 or 3 850 gph Koralias work good? I also finished the stand but need to move it down stairs. The center piece is removable just in case I change my sump. I'm picking up a 30 gallon long for the sump...

Starting a 75 Gallon soon - Got questions

Thanks for the response. I think I will pass on those powerheads and get something with a little less flow.

Starting a 75 Gallon soon - Got questions

I have another question about powerheads. Would 2 1400 gph koralias be too much flow for my 75 gallon tank? The reason I ask is I found a good deal from a local seller on 2 used powerheads.

    LED Brands

I am probably going to go the rapidled route. I'm not going to buy the kit because I don't need everything that comes in it. Would I have to have lenses on all of the LED or what is the reason for them? Just trying to save some unnecessary cost on the project.

    LED Brands

Ok, thanks. That's the information I was looking for.

    LED Brands

So I'm still trying to decide what type of lighting I want to use for my tank.. I'm either going to use some t5 retro fixtures from AH Supply or I'm going to go with DIY LEDs. Right now, I am doing cost comparison and the t5 kit would be cheaper. My main question is for the brand of leds to...

New to the site and was treated terribly

Sorry to hear that you are going. There is alot of good information on this site. On the other hand I think you may have over reacted. I read the post in that link and was a little confused as well. I wouldn't know because I have yet to start my tank up....soon... but how do you go a whole...

    Sundial Lighting question - Newb

After doing some searching I am leaning towards A H Supply 54watt setup. I am thinking of using (2) 2 bulb set ups along with the 2 t5 actinic bulbs I have now. So, 6 total. Has anybody used the A H Supply kit? They seem very simply to incorporate into a canopy. Am I on the right track? I...

    Sundial Lighting question - Newb

Ok, so that's 6-8 total or 6-8 white plus actinic lights..? I guess I'm not sure what light is required. I know I need 10000k lighting but a little confused about the actinic lights. Is there a thread out there that explains in depth the lighting? I can't find much in the search function.

    Sundial Lighting question - Newb

Someone is selling a light fixture locally and I'm wondering if it would be worth it. I'm just collecting things right now for my first reef tank and not really sure what I want for lighting. It is a 48" Current USA SunDial T5 HO 4x54w with timer & LED. He wants $150 for it. New its $275...

    RO system Setup

Maybe I will get a pressure gauge. Also, probably going to get a TDS Meter. So you install the pressure gauge on the line coming from the house? By turning it off you are not pushing any water through the membrane correct?

    RO system Setup

Ok I have the RO/DI system setup but I have a question about adjusting the flow. Here is the paragraph in the installation instructions "Ensuring the dial on top of the E – Z Flush Flow Restrictor has been entirely opened, visually judge how fast the water is flowing out of the blue water line...

Starting a 75 Gallon soon - Got questions

Got the skimmer and put it in the sump tank....its a little big but I might be able to make it work. I think I will have to change my plan to a skimmer, refug., then return idea. My sump is a 37 gallon aquarium which is only 30" long (i think). How do I slow the flow through the refugium? Do...

Starting a 75 Gallon soon - Got questions

Update: Received my RO/DI unit yesterday and have it 80% set up. I also bought a pondmaster 950 newish (guy bought it new but never used it). I should be finishing the stand this weekend once I figure out what to coat the inside with. I am also buying a used Euro Reef 180 skimmer today after...
