If you had your choice/ gramma or 6 line?

I would be very careful with your 6-line. I had one for 2 years and everything was fine. Then he attacked and killed my royal gramma. A few months later, I came home from work to find him swimming around the tank with my cleaner shrimps antennae in his mouth, and a badly mauled shrimp dying...

what is this on my hippo

Hi, If it is HLLE, it is often nutrition related. What are you feeding your tang? I have had some run in's with HLLE in the past and there are a few things you can do to help. First, make sure you feed your tang a healthy, varied diet with plenty of greens. I use seaweed selects, frozen...

    tang question????

Hi, I have a yellow tang and he won't touch my hair algae. He only eats the nori I put on the algae clip. From what I have read, they are supposed to love hair algae, but it has not been the case IME. I'm not sure about the purple's though. -Steve

    Ich...What if?

Hi, I would start setting up your QT tank right away. It sounds like your fish have both Ich and a secondary bacterial infection. While you are setting up your QT, you should do a large water change on your main tank. That will help while your QT gets set up. Once in QT, you will need to...

    lots of symptoms

Hi, Is it possible that the angel is nipping at your corals which is making them receed? I know that pygmy angels are not generally considered reef safe, although there are exceptions, so you might want to watch for that as well. -Steve

    Dragon Wrasse and Flame Hwak

Hi, The flame hawk would probably be OK with things, but the dragon wrasse would make a meal out of your inverts and small fish. I had a friend with a dragon wrasse and he had lots of problems with it. They like to dig and bury themselves in the substrate to sleep. They will dig around your...

    Romaine lettuce

Hi, The other downside to romaine is that due to the use of fertilizers which are high in nitrates, you can end up feeding your tangs lots of food that has a very high concentration of nitrates which is poisonous. Nori or seaweed selects are the way to go. -Steve

    Ricordia?

Hi, I'm upgrading the lighting on my 55 soon to 2x65 Watt PC 50/50's and was wondering if I would be able to keep any ricordia shrooms with that amount of light. What other types of corals could I keep? Thanks! -Steve

    PC Light Experience

I'm not sure about the legs. I was thinking of going with the top, and placing the light right on the hood. One thing I worry about with the legs is whether or not I'm going to be blinded by the light that comes out between the tank and the lights when I'm looking at the tank. Although, I...

    PC Light Experience

angelofdeath, That would be great. I'd really be interested in hearing how yours works out. We have almost the same setup (55 gallon, emporer 400, seaclone 100, 50#'s liverock), so I'd be very curious to see how it goes. Are you getting the light with the leg kit or are you just sitting it on...

    55 Gallon Owners

Hi, I am trying to get some ideas about how to upgrade the lighting on my 55 gallon. Right now I have the 2 15 watt lights it came with so there's only 30 total watts of light right now. I would to upgrade to at least 110 - 130 watts and keep a few low light corals like mushrooms and maybe...

    PC Light Experience

Hi, I checked out the link, but I'm really looking more for just a thin strip light I can put on a glass hood and not have to move or turn off to get into the tank for maintanence and feeding. I saw that the 130W coralife aqualight was only 5 inches wide so it will fit like I want it to, but...

    PC Light Experience

Hi, I'm thinking of upgrading the lighting on my 55 gallon to PC's. Has anyone ever used the Coralife Aqualight brand PC Strip light? It has 2 x 65W output with 50/50 bulbs. I haven't been able to find many reviews of these lights online and was wondering if anyone on the board had any...
