    ID needed on these bugs

These guys are all over my tank. Mostly on the rock and on the glass. They look like they're around the algae areas. They're white and have legs and crawl. Almost look like ants. I don't think they swim at all. I am not talking about the acoel flatworm on the right in one of the attachments.

Clownfish stays in the same spot - Sick?

My false percula1 is rather boring. I don't know if he's sick or what's wrong with him. When I first got him he moved around than ich came and I put him and 2 other fishes (smaller false perc and heniochus) in QT. They were in QT for 8 weeks and treated with hypo. In QT the false perc would just...

do ick spots come and go in 1 day?

Ich look like raised white spots. They can be pinpoint or the size of salt. Ich does come and go. It's part of the life cycle of ich.

    Treat ich now or later?

I just purchased a blue hippo tang and some other fish which are in QT. I've battled ich in the past successfully using hyposalinity. I see a couple of ich spots on the tang but the others are clean. The tang eats nori here and there and eats a few pellets but not as much as I'd like too. The...

    Fish in hyposalinity

UPDATE: heni looks better now and he's swimming and eating like usual. I think the big water changes are getting to him. I have opted to do 5 gallon water changes everyday so there are no big swings. The melafix took the cloudy eye away for 1 day but it appears to have come back. I'll continue...

    Fish in hyposalinity

I think I screwed up. When I woke up this morning heni was breathing fast and he did not want to eat. He's moving slow now and not swimming around like normal. He also has 1 white dot by his eye which looks like it may be ich again. :( I left the window open last night to air out the room. The...

    Fish in hyposalinity

My salinity is at the lower side of 1.009 ;). Good news is that I bought a K1 black friday deal at my LFS and marlin came out of hiding. Looks like marlin is eating 1 or 2 pellets so that looks to be good. As far as heni he's eating still and swimming around despite the faded colors and pop eye...

    Fish in hyposalinity

    Fish in hyposalinity

My 3 fish (1) heniochus (2) clownfish are in hypo right now. I just ended my first week. I add amquel + for ammonia control and have a slow drip cooked baking soda/ro mixture dripping to control pH. They are in a 30 gallon tank. Sometimes the heni's colors would fade. When I turn the lights on...

    hyposalinity and pH

I created an "IV" out of 2 liter bottle with air line tubing and a ball valve. Mixture of half bottle of RODI water and teaspoon of baking soda and set it on the tank horizontal. I set it to 1 drip every 10 seconds. That should bring the pH for the fish nice and slowly. :)

    hyposalinity and pH

What is the mixture you guys are mixing? How much water to baking soda? I have some Kent dKh but I found out that the baking soda mixture is more potent. Also what do you use to drip the buffer in?

    hyposalinity and pH

No powerhead in the tank. I see no requirements to put powerheads in a QT/HT. Simple filtration from HOB. Did not check kH. I understand that when doing hyposalinity the pH will drop. I need a way to stabilize that instead of getting big pH swings that can stress and kill my fish. Like mentioned...

    hyposalinity and pH

My pH keeps on dropping pretty low in between the time I leave for work and come home 9am - 6pm. I can tell it's low because my heniochus color is pale and white colored. It gets down to 7.2. I am using a cooked baking soda/tank water mixture to raise my pH up. From the time I bring pH up to...

    What would you do? (ich)

I was thinking about that but I have way too much stuff in my tank to move out. The heni is medium size. I might just go find a used tank for them. You think a 40 gallon would be ok for all 3 of them? I'll probably just set the 20 gallon and make it a reef for my son. :)

    What would you do? (ich)

I have a 100 gallon FOWLR (100 lbs LR, cleaner shrimp and snails) with 3 fish in it (heniochus, and 2 false perculas). They all have ich on them. I have a 20 gallon for a quarantine. Should I put all 3 of them in the 20 gallon and treat them or will they get stressed out for being too compact...

    Brown film algae in fuge

I have this brown film algae in my fuge. I think it's either cyano or diatoms (not sure which???). It's only in the chamber with my chaeto ball that's rolling. Most likely because of the daylight bulb running during night hours. Is there something that will "eat" or remove this stuff like some...

    Has my cycle completed?

Yea, I was thinking that my cycle would take at least a month but not sure why it is shorter? Maybe because of the LR and LS that I added??? Is it ok to add a CUC or should I wait longer? Also how much of a water change should I do once my cycle is over? As I add life I will see mini cycles correct?

    Has my cycle completed?

2 weeks ago I started my tank with 20 lbs of LR and 60 lbs of dry rock. I also added 30 lbs of LS from an established tank and 100 lbs of dry sand. My initial readings were the following. Ammonia - .75 ppm Nitrite - .15 ppm During my cycle the highest the ammonia was only .75ppm. The highest...

Using the ocean to start a tank

Coral Keeper, where exactly do you get your water from? Do you get it along the beaches or out to sea? What beach do you get your sand from?
