If you had enough LR and LS and a good refugium growing, could you skip the other filters? I've been reading that some are still recommending at least a protein skimmer. I've read also that trickle filters aren't good for the overabundance of nitrate they create.

ijji, Can you comment on what is pulling the water from inside the main tank to the outside container and then to the refugium? I assume a pump or powerhead is pushing water back to the main tank?
