    Red Sea C-1800

I recently received a Red Sea C-1800 Protein Skimmer for my aquarium. The skimmer will fit underneath my cabinet, but will not fit inside my sump. I was wondering if anyone has the skimmer set-up outside their sump and if so, could you post a picture so that I have an idea of what I will need to...

    Cardinal dying?

Thanks again for the advice. I posted in both threads bc I figured the title is no longer appropriate for the subject. I actually woke up this morning and everything seems to be doing fine. I will be talking to the LFS to ensure that if something does go south the with anemones, I will be...

    Aggressive Cardinals????

forgive me for unspecific information, the anemone's were a "Long tentacle" and a "sebae"? both actually seem to be doing well. Sorry for the dumb question, but if we wake up tomorrow and they are "dead".... what will we be looking for?

    Aggressive Cardinals????

We netted them for a little bit, about an hour. Still inside the tank. We released them a short time ago and they seem to be staying on their separate sides. Im confused about the comment on the Anemones? Why is it bad that we bought 2? I know that they will share one as one will go male and...

    Aggressive Cardinals????

Long story short, my LFS told me my tank cycled before it actually did. We added 2 banner cardinals. a few days later we noticed nitrates getting high (40ppm) so we did a 15% water change. The next morning one cardinal died. We took the water to the LFS where they said it was "perfect". We...

    Cardinal dying?

I have netted the 2 cardinals and now the clownfish are swimming the entire tank like a kid in a candy store.... They seem happy as can be.... How do I keep the Cardinals from bullying them?

    Cardinal dying?

Ok so we took a water sample to the LFS, and they said the water is "PERFECT." In such the case, they talked us into 2 hard corals, a replacement Cardinal, 25 lbs of Live rock, and 2 clownfish. Now it actually seems that the Cardinals are "bullying" the clownfish. The seem to have them cornered...

    Cardinal dying?

My advanced apology, what is RO water? Distilled? Or the station where you fill it yourself? We are also adding bio-boost to the aquarium. As far as food we are using Mysis Shrimp for the cardinals and Formula 2 for the Blenny, although he doesn't go right after it like he should. Im thinking...

    Cardinal dying?

Yes it removes both. Normally the water sits about 5-10 minutes or so. I haven't ever been given advice on a timeframe for the water to sit....what should I allow it to sit? If the easiest route is to buy the ocean water I can do that, I just want to do this all correctly.

    Cardinal dying?

We are using tap water, but we are pre-mixing the salt and adding de-chlorinator ("Start Right") prior to putting it in the tank. We also always ensure the salinity of 1.024. My LFS sells jugs of "ocean water," but do I really need to spend $20 on 5 gallons of water?? Besides testing the water...

    Cardinal dying?

Thanks for the responses, I appreciate it. So the Nitrite reading should be 0 and absolutely no higher when the tank is done cycling? I was under the impression that it might vary slightly from week to week, but that as long as it was always .25 or lower, that it shouldn't be an issue. Are you...

    Cardinal dying?

correct. I thought the same thing. But in talking to the ppl at my LFS, ( who several have successful corral / reef tanks) hey told me it wouldn't be an issue. They said the cycle would restart when i added the salt. I took the water to them weekly and the said the cycle had finished. So we got...

    Cardinal dying?

Only other fish is the lawnmower blenny. We got the cardinals first bc they are the tamest fish we plan on having. The tank ran with only live sand for and no salt for about 3 weeks. ran with live rock and salt for about a 5 days, ran with the lawnmower for a week, and now has had the cardinals...

    Cardinal dying?

I have a 55 gallon FWLR aquarium that has been up and running for a few weeks. We test the water daily and everything has been in check for the most part. 0 Ammonia, less than .25 Nitrite, about 20-40 nitrate. We noticed the nitrate getting a little high so last night we did a 15% water change...
