Ugh do I feel like an idiot...

Thanks guys, I called the store today (I had to leave the tank there overnight because it wouldnt fit in my car and they were closing)... they say that the UG filter is not the main filter in the setup they made for me... They say its main purpose is to cultivate the beneficial bacteria in the...

To reef or not to reef?

I'm still stuck on how I want to go about my first aquarium. Although I have been interested in a reef setup, it seems to be really expensive to start out with. I was hoping to start something decent for under a grand, but all the fish stores in my area seem to be charging a premium for setups...

Is a chiller for the Aqua Euro 34 really necessary?

@ DeeJeff442 I missed your question.... I believe the Aqua Euro has metal halide lights built in... so does that change your opinion on whether this thing needs a chiller or not?

Is a chiller for the Aqua Euro 34 really necessary?

Hmm thats interesting I thought $699 would be a good deal since they are including the sand and seawater... especially since most online stores are selling just the tank on its own for $849... At the moment I'm talking to a guy on craiglist who is selling his 90g reef with all the required...

Might purchace a reef tank from craigslist. What should I ask the seller to make sure I'm not duping myself?

Well, I just spoke to the seller regarding leaks. He said that since the tank and all the equipment has been broken down for transport, it just isnt pratical for him to put it back together and fill it up just to show me... he did say however, that if I still wanted the tank, he would bring it...

Might purchace a reef tank from craigslist. What should I ask the seller to make sure I'm not duping myself?

Cool thanks everyone. I gave him a call during my lunch break. We actually just talked about the hobby in general for a little while before the conversation moved onto the tank... so I got a good feeling talking to him. Good idea about seeing it run with water... since he offered to show me how...

Might purchace a reef tank from craigslist. What should I ask the seller to make sure I'm not duping myself?

Hello again! As many of you can tell from my previous posts, I am in the market for my first saltwater tank. I found what appears to be a nice tank being sold on craigslist near my area. Here is what I know right now based on what the seller has told me: 90 gallon. Dark Cherry wood stand. 6 bulb...

Has anyone had any luck getting their tank and supplies from a chain store?

Yeah you have a good point... I'm just worried about any noob mistakes I will probably make and would feel less worried about it if only a few hundred dollars were at risk instead of over a thousand.

Has anyone had any luck getting their tank and supplies from a chain store?

Mostly because my brother in law is a manager at a local wal mart and he can bring bring home anything I may need while I'm away at work :) But also for the same reason's one wouldn't buy a Ferrari for someone who is about to learn how to drive... if you get what I mean.

Has anyone had any luck getting their tank and supplies from a chain store?

Since I am just starting out, would it be wise to get my supplies/equipment from a chain store (ala ***** or walmart) instead of a specialty shop and then later "upgrade" to the good stuff once I have a feel for the basics?

Help me make my shopping list please.

Ok folks, The time has finally come where I am just about ready to make my purchases and get my tank started :D However, the only equipment recommendations I've had were from the salespeople, so I don't know if what was suggested was actually good, or if the guy just needed to make a sale. So...

    Cleaning a filthy tank.

Thanks everyone for all the help. While we're on the subject, I should also mention that, although the glass is ~an inch thick, I noticed atleast 1 bottom corner where there was some glass chipping (probably only few milimeters worth of chippage on the outside. Is this something that I should be...

    Cleaning a filthy tank.

Thank you both for the advice... now what about the outside? My appologies if the video covers this, I'm at work and cannot watch videos until my break. I would say that the outside glass is almost as filthy as the inside glass.

    Cleaning a filthy tank.

Hello all. I have been interested in getting into the hobby of keeping a saltwater tank for some time now. Yesterday, my brother in law's friend decided he wanted to get rid of his 90 gallon tank, so I was happy to take it off his hands. The tank was in so bad shape that he gave it to me for...

Hello everyone tax day has been good to me so I thought I'd do something that I've always wanted to do which is owning and maintaining a saltwater aquarium :) Although I've read that it is recommended that a beginner use a 50 gallon tank or larger, I don't think space at my place allows it, so...
