Problem with Aqua Medic Ocean Light 250W

It is the green wire from the ballast to the light fixture. Inside the fixture, the wire changes from green to blue and has a eye-type connector on it. I attached the wire to a screw inside the fixture. BUT...still not sure why I would loose a second bulb in 2 months. After the lightning...

Problem with Aqua Medic Ocean Light 250W

My wife and I have been using an Aqua Medic Ocean Light 250W for about 2 years. About two months ago our power lines were struck by lightning and the bulb blew out. So we replaced the bulb and everything has been fine until yesterday when the bulb blew out again. I opened the fixture and it...

I need acrylic to build my refugium

My only other advice...beware of broken acrylic. It is very sharp, as my hands can attest.

    2 Baffles just broke!!!

I just did a similar project for my wife's sump/refugium with similar results, i.e., that the 0.1" acrylic divider for the refugium separated from the wall. I think it was a combination of too much bending in the acrylic and too much pressure in the silicone. I retrofit using 0.25" acrylic and...

I need acrylic to build my refugium

Yep. Home Depot. The acrylic sheet is generally stocked in the rear corner by the building supplies. Based on my experience, I suggest staying away from the 0.1" and go for the 0.25" thick sheets. You will need a special circular saw blade to cut it. They go for about $8.

    Frogspawn Split

Here's a link to the project that I did last week on my tank on the DIY forum. In a mere seven days, I have seen my two lps's start to divide and my GSP's (which I have had in my tank for a year with no significant growth) have taken off! https://forums.saltwaterfish.com/t/103940/small-tank-overflow

How big/heavy can tank be 4 2nd floor

The simple answer is it depends. Is this old or new construction? Is it a house or a building? Are the floors level? DO you own the place? The list goes on. If you have any doubts you should have a structural engineer come in a look at it for you. I have a friend in Salem who has a large...

My 29...is this the right way to do it.

A few more comments. Are you doing a FOWLR? From what I understand, Flame (and other pygmy) angels have been known to eat corals. The 29G may also not be big enough for that fish.

My 29...is this the right way to do it.

Hey Phoenix316. I have the same size tank You may want to reconsider your overflow purchase. There have been quite a few post on the DIY forum wrt that configuration versus the U-tube type. After reading the horror stories about the loss of suction and consequent overflow of the display tank...

What causes a Xenia to die?

That's a good question. I've had colonies that looked great and grew quickly for a few months only to later wilt/dissolve over the course of a few days. But I've had a steady population for over a year. My wife on the other hand cannot keep them alive. :notsure:

    Converting FW 125 to SW?

I don't have alot of experience choosing lights, but I will add that you should get rid of the glass top. It will only build up condesation/crusted salt and reflect a good portion of your lighting. It also hinders gas exchange at the surface of the water. There are some fish that are known to...

    few questions

I had no problem getting coralline to start in my tank.. It did take quite a while, maybe 8 months. At first it was the light pink kind. But now I am getting the purple/pink encrusting to take off. I attribute it to getting my calcium and alkalinity to the recommended levels. Or perhaps it...

    Converting FW 125 to SW?

Definitely go with an overflow/sump arrangement. If you can get the tank drilled, that is the preferred method over the hang on the back kind. The overflow will remove the film that develops on the water surface and help oxygenate the tank. Also, you can hide all your gear below the tank and...

    Frogspawn Split

Just when I thought things were not going well in my tank because of all the monkeying around I have been doing with my new overflow..... POOF! My frogspawn up and split from 1 stalk to at least 3 maybe 4 separate organisms. I can't wait to see it tomorrow morning! Its all withdrawn at the...
