    Frozen Fish Food Expiry Dates

Would you feed your fish frozen foods after the best before date? If its remained frozen, would you see any issues with going past the date? For myself, I won't eat anything past the best before date for the most part, especially refrigerated foods. Thoughts?

    Flashing Tilefish pic

Thanks! I built a cover for it the day I brought it home. I paid a lot for this fish and don't want it going surfing. He's out a lot now, but seems to flash at his tank mates when I feed. He's in my 55 gl tank with a couple chromis, couple clowns and a flame angel, no one bugs him. Awesome...

    Algae problem.. 55 gallon... nitemare

I've got the fluval 305, been running for a year and a half. Just make sure you clean it. With your current algae issues, I would clean weekly with water changes. Change the media monthly. I don't about other brands as this is the only one I've ever used.

    Algae problem.. 55 gallon... nitemare

Not disagreeing with btlreef at all, a sump system is a great choice if feasible. I looked into doing one on my tank and decided not to for a number of reasons -the risk of water on the floor was a big one as tank is not drilled, fully operational, but I have no room in my stand for one. so...

    Flashing Tilefish pic

I picked this guy up on Friday. It's a bad pic as my camera skills suck, but he's gorgeous. His normal color is blue, but he turns yellow, white, green and purple in seconds. He's only flashed when I first got him and for a few hours after he went in the tank but seems to be settling in. He...

    Algae problem.. 55 gallon... nitemare

I have a 55 gl tank as well and use a fluval 305 canister filter. I keep carbon, rowaphos, the filter media and sponges in it. Clean thoroughly every 2 weeks and change media monthly. I just added my 6th fish to the tank so small bio load. I don't have a skimmer on the tank but have 3 power...

Thinking of setting up a 10-15 gl office Seahorse tank

Thats an excellent suggestion. I have a 10 gl tank that I used last year to qt, could set up at home,,get the office tank going, while its cycling, work on the feeding at home, much easier to do! I used copper in this tank so not good for anything. Would be a great way to get this going! The...

Thinking of setting up a 10-15 gl office Seahorse tank

I really like this idea and these fish are awesome looking! I'm going to do a lfs tour this weekend and try to see one in person. Then start pricing out equipment! Question on the live food tho, do I need to keep a separate tank for the foods? Obviously weaning them to frozen would be...

Thinking of setting up a 10-15 gl office Seahorse tank

Vacations and sickness I would not worry about as I'm sure I could train someone to look after things while I was away. I tried to find some Canadian SH breeders but it looks like most come out of the US, then with cost of permits and CITES, might not make financial sense to bring them up...

Thinking of setting up a 10-15 gl office Seahorse tank

Thanks Saxman. Ok, will stick with calling them seahorses and drop the pony! My thoughts with setting this tank up is part of a nano contest which is 20 gl max water volume. First obvious concern is tank size, second is feedings. For an office tank, this may not be a realistic endeavor. I...

Cycle question... And a couple others

That's an interesting read. I guess in a way I do the same thing and didn't realize it. I leave my pump running in my brute can so I can fast fill my jugs for top offs. I then pump my ro water to the other can to mix. Learn something new everyday... Is there a locall reef club or...

Anyone familiar with Salinity Aqua Vitro brand of salt?

I just switched from using the salinity after a year. I found it left scum in my mixing container and my all never was above 6. I'm using reef crystals now and seeing much better coloration and fullness in my corals, plus no scum in the bottom of the can. When you add the salt, put your hand...

Cycle question... And a couple others

If your ro container is filled, add your salt and let it mix. I've done water changes after mixing the salt a few hours, but usually let it mix 24 hrs. Not sure why you would need a ph to mix plain or water...I've started mixing my water cold, meaning I don't heat the water until a few hours...

Looks good! It does look like you've got some algae growing so that a good thing! Do you have a clean up crew in there?

Thinking of setting up a 10-15 gl office Seahorse tank

I'm thinking of setting up a small office seahorse tank and have no idea where to start. My thoughts are 10-15 gl max tank canister filter lights? powerheads? live rock sand 2-4 ponies soft corals Is there a good place to look for this information or can someone help walk me through what is...

Cycle question... And a couple others

How is everything doing in your DT now? How about a full tank shot (fts)? Would love to see this little ocean you've got going on My understanding of a new QT tank is that it also needs to cycle. I set up an emergency hospital tank last year and it failed miserably. I was receiving great...

    180 gallon build for 2012

That's an awesome idea! I've seen a lot of setups like this, plumbed into another room or down to the basement. I say go for it. I tried talking my bf into this but down to our basement, would have made things soooooo much easier, especially water changes. He wouldn't go for it. :flame:

Cycle question... And a couple others

Uv sterilizers are said to help deal with parasites but if also affects the beneficial bacteria in the water column. I have one for my tank but haven't actually used it and not sure I will. I can't offer any advice on them. Other people quarantine their fish before adding to their main tank...

+1 above! Sorry, I should have said hi and welcome to the addiction first!!! I have a blue throat trigger and it is by far one of my favorite fish! He is extremely passive but he always comes to glass to have a visit when I'm sitting watching my tank. My blue hippo tang however is a jerk and...
