I've had a Peppermint Shrimp and Fire Shrimp for about 3 days now... they both found a nice cave/crevice area and have yet to leave those areas since they were put in 3 days. Is this normal for these guys? Thanks!

25.5 lbs Live Rock 15.4 lbs Base Rock The structure on the right side has a big cave area inside that the wrasse seems to love so far. Not as great looking as some others, but I think it'll serve my purposes for the moment!

Also, the amount of live rock "needed" varies with the bio-load of the tank. More livestock = more ammonia = more surface area needed for bacteria to grow = more live rock needed! =)

Added a Six Line Wrasse and a Tail Spot Blenny on Saturday. Everyone is doing well, thus far. Today, I'm adding an extra 10.4lbs of base rock to bring my total rock weight up to 40.9lbs (25.5 Live, 15.4 Base) Will post a pic or two later tonight once I put the new rock in. Thinking of trying...

Do fish randomly jump (sometimes hitting whatever is covering the top) or do they scout out the open parts of the tank and aim for the openings?

I've had the two clowns, 6 scarlet reef hermits, and 5 turbo snails in for 4 full days now and ammonia and nitrite have remained at 0 during every test I've done. Nitrate between 0 and 5 (API Test Kit). I've got two questions! 1) Is it normal for those two readings to stay at 0 for this long...

First two inhabitants... mated pair of Ocellaris Clowns. Also added a few crabs and a few snails. The activity of the crabs is astounding... they have been grazing and climbing all over the rock non-stop! Once the bioload stabilizes again, I'll probably be adding 3 blue/green Chromis next...

I think a lagoon style would suit me just fine!! Need to wait on finding a few of the right sized, good quality rocks, though.

Added 9 more lbs since the last pic... LFS was low on good pieces otherwise I'd have picked up more.

Thanks, Teresa! I had forgotten about the whole cured/uncured issue when fish were in the tank. Thankfully, I've got something I can cure it in before I add more to the tank.

Saw a tiny spike in ammonia a few days ago and it's back to zero with the corresponding jump in nitrites. Nitrates, here we come! If things continue on this path, hopefully should stock the first two fish in about a week!

After adding 16lbs Live and 5lbs Base. Will be adding more Live Rock next week.

Added 16lbs of cured Live Rock and 5lbs of Base Rock today. Will post picture tomorrow once water clears again.

Thanks for the replies. I got my tank via FedEx today (no cracks, thank God) and have it all set up with the sand, saltwater, filter, heater, and powerhead. Going to get some LR tomorrow to begin the cycling. I'll update the thread periodically with any updates! I'll also post a pic once...
